My beardie, Chad, is about 8 years old and I've had him for 7 of those years. About a week ago I noticed he was lightly limping on his back right leg. I kept an eye on it the first day and called the vet the next. He was limping the same and his thigh was swollen. His calf and foot were fine and so were his other legs.
The vet was able to get me in 4 days later as this is the only exotic veterinarian within an hour drive of where I live.
We did a few xrays but they couldn't quite tell what exactly was going on. It appears the head of his femur bone may have fractured off from within the socket. Or possible necrosis of that part of the bone. Or hip dysplasia. Or a bunch of other possibilities. However she doesn't think it's MBD.
The veterinarian is not a bearded dragon specialist but is reaching out with the xrays to another doctor that works of exotics.
Has anybody else seen anything similar to this?
The only way I can think of it fracturing is maybe his leg got caught in his hammock and he pulled on it too hard.
It's been about 5 days and it hasn't gotten worse or better. He's still eating and using the bathroom just fine. He's also still walking around, that one leg just doesn't stretch as far.
