Oh, I also wanted to mention that in her condition Miss Chick a Boom would be much better off on newspaper. There are several reasons....Her legs being so weak she cannot get a good grip even to move herself around [ think of walking in sand when you're tired ] Then her eye condition CANNOT afford to be made worse by any sandy substrate. It would be much worse for her than a healthy dragon. Then since she;s sitting in her poo at times, the sandy gunk will stick to her vent, easily causing an infection. And one more thing, that substrate can cause impaction in a sick, weak dragon if accidentally eaten. So you might want to use newspaper and she'll probably be more comfortable right away. Remember, she's special needs, and so far your'e doing a great job !

Apology to the poster for the side highjack.... Lauram63110, there have been times it's multiple, but the hubs loves and cares for them too so when it's multiple poops we are both hard at it. 8 of our 11 are rescues. Theses beautiful and gentle creatures are my retirement joy! I rescue and have become a sanctuary as well. DragonHeart Rescue and Sanctuary.

mayuso001, rescue is felt as much as learned. You are wonderful!

Hi Mayuso, how is she doing tonight? Please keep us updated.

:D OMG OMG her little eyes are OPENED today! She was moving around yesterday slowly. My vet said she has severe MBD, I renamed her Chick A Boom because of the way she "struts". ALL OF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for her success so far! I cant believe how much in love I am with all of you for getting me trhu this. Even the vet was impressed with the info I received on this forum! My face book page is Black-Eyed Pyke Ayume. I posted a pic of her today for laura. WHAT a difference in just 4 days!

:!: Thats a great idea! I was thinking of putting lizard carpet in half the tank to create an eating area so she has a chance to catch the worms and crickets. ( i pull some of the legs off the crickets so they dont move so fast) but I never would have thought to use newspaper! THANKS! She moved away from her poop yesterday. I was jumping for joy! I know how clean these little sweeties like to be. She also drank when I gave her they dilute pedialyte bath.

AHBD, Thanks for adding that about the bath/soak, you are, as usual, 100 % correct! :D

Lauram63110 , I agree with your entire post, the person is horrible that could let this happen. And all 11 of my beardies are exceptionally clean, they hate their poop, I'm retired and home all day. I know by listening when one has gone of they haven't used the bath. They glass dance to get my attention. I immediately clean it up and they go back to basking, very happy their is no poop in their abode.

mayuso001, I got your pm. You are doing all you can! Your little rescue is far better off with you no matter the out come! Sometimes they can be in such very poor condition that you don't think they will make it. We do all we can for physical support, feeding supplements, meds if ordered by the vet, keeping them toasty warm, and do it all with a gentler human touch and spirit than they have ever experienced. Sometimes they make it but it will be a very slow recovery since they heal so slowly.....After doing everything we can for them sometimes they don't make it, that makes us their hospice. What you are doing matters and you are wonderful for trying!

:D THANK YOU for all the feedback! This is everyones success and I mean that from my heart!

:angry5: FYI the co worker her neglected this poor baby actually tried to VALIDATE her neglect by telling me Chick- A- Boom ate perfcetly fine when she was with her and that she looked to her like EVERY OTHER bearded dragoon she every saw! NO i didnt punch her in the face but I wanted to! I asked her if she wanted to speak with my vet considering he documented years of neglect, starvation and severe MBD due to disgusting conditions and inadequate lighting during the critical stages of her development. When I showed her pictures of Fat Boy who is as handsome as he is FAT, she ACTUALLY said to me, I MUST HAVE A DIFFERENT SPECIES than CHICK-A-BOOM! OMG HONESTLY I ALMOST EXPLODED!DOnt you love ppl who have an excuse for everything?

Her attitude is both inexcusable and ignorant. For your own sanity, I would try to remember that it is impossible to reason with unreasonable people. No amount of talking with her or trying to show her the error of her ways will convince her she is wrong. It is a waste of your time and energy. Don't let her have the power to make you crazy. This comes from my own hard-learned lessons in dealing with unreasonable people. And when I forget my rule about not trying, it almost always ends badly.
Hang in there, dear! You are doing a great job!

It is sickening the chain pet shops are unwilling to update to the current safe care practices. It makes me very sad to see all those baby beardies on sand! I will say not all vets stay up with the current care practices either. It just serves to make many keepers confused. Sometimes I wish we could take the old school vets who don't do their homework and stay up to date and take the money-directed pet industry CEO's and put then in one room with no toilet and make them stay there 90% of the time. They would have to defecate on the floor in that room, and eat there and sleep there with the solid waste being picked up only once daily, but no mopping up the liquid waste or any residue of the solid waste. They would have to live in that progressively filthy and contaminated room. I know the care practices and advice would improve then. I'm happy you've had no problem with the crushed walnut shells and sand mix. Not everyone has been so lucky or it wouldn't be the issue it is. A bit of research on bearded dragon impaction is an eye opener, with graphic photos. For me and many others it's about avoiding the RISKS. Slowly the care practices are updating and becoming current and cleaner and safer for the Dragons. Sadly it will take quite some time. Progress has a snail's pace. Of course she is your's and you can do as you wish. I'm so glad you have rescued her from the hell she was in. She is better off with you. Kudos! You are wonderful for rescuing her!
Good Luck and I hope she thrives in your care! :D

What a terribly ignorant person :( I think I'd of let the air out of her tires, since violence is frowned upon :p
Also, I can't find your page on FB. It doesn't exist when I search for it :/

I love the name! Spike pretty much is hand fed. Not because he has to be, he is just lazy and spoiled! Sampson loves the chase, so I am trying not to spoil him like that. It sounds to me like you have a fighter on your hands. Chick-a-boom is very lucky to have you.

Thank you for the feedback. I think my iPhone is in need of an overhaul. I downloaded photobucket twice. For some reason it will not load. Considering how many times my phone is smacked around by students residents and doctors its amazing it rings! If you don't mind the fact that our family dresses up like pirates during pirate week festivals feel free to Facebook me at black-eyed Pyke ayume. chick a booms progress pictures are there. I'm so grateful to everyone for the responses!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
