undigested food... wat it looks like..

i have 2 baby beardies... and maybe its because i like feeding time as much as they do... but with humans at least with me when i get full i stop eating... is this the same with bearded dragons because i have one bigger then the other which obviously eats more than the smaller one. today i cleaned the cage and shortly after i found a pile of worms in the corner looks like one of them threw it up... is this because i'm feeding them too much?

I also find wat looks like whole worms in their stools... is this undigested food or just because they are swallowing the worms whole basically?

Normally beardies will stop eating when they have had enough. Undigested parts on the poo can mean the basking temps are too lowto properly digest food. What are the basking temps and what rae you measuring them with? If it is a round dial type these can be very innacurate, and often are up to 20 degrees wrong.

Are your babies housed together? If so this coulld be your problem, if one sits, or stacks on the other the dominated one on the bottom will not be getting the good UVB rays, or the right temp for basking. This could explain why one is bigger than the other?

If they are together, i would suggest separating them, you can put a divider up in the cage you have for a temporary solution.

The worms that look like they were thrown up may be an indication that something is wrong. After separating them i would keep a close eye on them, if it happens again take them to the vet for a check up. Speaking of which have you had a feacal test done to rule out any parasites??

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to be thurough!

they are both housed together when i bought them they were housed together and i had to buy them both... i bought them both because i thought they would want someone to play with... after i made the purchase i realized that one may be female and the other a male.... and that they are territorial creatures... they get along fine now... but once they grow i dont know how their tempers will be.

i have a little thermo sticker thing placed in the corner of the tank. i think i need to get one with a probe so i can find the temp on the basking area but i have their basking area right below the sticker and the sticker only reads to 90 degrees F. and it is maxed out so i believe its hot enough...

im also having so probs keeping the humid between 20-30% its usually on 30 or near 50. but they seem fine..

The humidity is fine, they can be comforatble in up to 40 i believe.

How big is the tank? can you separate it in any way? Its just even as babies they pose a risk to each other. When can you get a thermom. with a probe? The stickers can be very off so i wouldnt want to play around with until i knew what they were atm. Are they spending time on the basking spot or avoiding it? What are their night time temps??

I have a 10 gal tank... the big one is about 8 inch and the small one 6-7 inch. i know i gotta get a bigger tank soon. im just going to upgrade it to a 40gal.

they love it in their basking area but they always move around... like for 20 min they may bask and then they will move towards the uvb and then eventually back to the basking area. i'll have to get some pictures and post them so you can see the tank. for the most part tho they are very friendly to each other and leave each other their space. at night time i turn on a inferred light and move it away from the basking area this way they can have a nice cool area to sleep in comfortably.

the way i got my cage set up is like this.... on one side i have a log carved out looks like a little cave for them with bark on one side. ontop of that i have a big stick where they love to climb up it and bask and then even on top of that i ahve like a little jungle... leaves on the side of the tank and over their basking area where they climb up into or go under for shade... there is a basking area and a shadded area for them under the light... then on the other side of the tank they have some free space with a water dis and food dish.

I am right along with Buggsy on all counts.
1) a 10 is too small even for one dragon baby.
2) the dials are too inaccurate.
3) housing together at any age is a baaad idea.

I would suggest two 40's or build yourself a custom viv. Minimum size is 36"l x 18"h x 18"w. This way you can house both, but separate, with one viv on top of the other.

i agree

basking should be around 110-115 for babies to proberly digest food but b/c of the stick on temp probes you cant be sure of the temps which i doubt are correct in a 10g it is hard to get those temps in that size tank

also unless you house gets below the low 60's at night you dont need a night time heat source they need to cool down at night plus the light can bother their eyes and make it so they dont get enough sleep

and i agree they really need to be seperated even if they appear to be getting along you are not their to watch them all day

and once the male reaches sexual maturity he will breed with the female before she is ready
and she will most likly get metabolic bone disease which is when they dont get enough calcium
sahe will take the calcium she should be using to grow and she will have to use it to make the eggs
this may kill her which i am sure you dont want

plus they are territorial as it is and should not be housed together they do not need a friend

what kind of worms are you feeding? some worms are hard to digest in the first place and if you have low basking temps that makes it even harder to digest

dont feed too many mealworms if any b/c they can be difficult for younger ones to digest

mainly crickets, feeder roaches, silkworms are the staple

they can also be fed hornworms butterworms and pheonix worms

super worms can be fed to dragons over 16" unless you can get ahold of baby super worms

also romain lettuce is not very good for them

http://www.beautifuldragons.com has a great food list
just go to nutrition content

main staples are mustard/collard/or turnup greens and any kind of squash

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
