I saw that the company that produced that video is a member on here that posts every once in awhile and gives a lot of advice. It would be interesting to see what their response is to this video since so much of it contradicts what is preached on this site. I almost tried to set mine up the same way due to that video before I stumbled across this site.

That would indeed be very interesting.
Within the first few minutes they
-already said that its okay two house two small ones in this enclosure
-put loose substrate in there and said you shouldnt worry
-put a water fall in there!

And then they continue with putting the uvb on top of the lid even though it filters like 50% of the uvb rays. Etc etc

So I wrote a comment suggesting that she looks at this website and gets the correct knowledge so that no bearded dragon gets affected by your misinformed set up. I got deleted.

LLLReptiles has a username on this site and posted on another thread earlier today. Thats why I wonder if they are giving false information to sell the products they carry or if they truly believe that the care they suggest is best for the dragons. Looking at some of their previous posts, its hard to tell.

Hey everyone. First, I'd suggest taking a deep breath. Keep in mind that there is no absolute way of caring for beardies. While there are some consistent recommendations you will see almost everywhere, there are many that vary. I've seen the opinions on this site change over time even. In all honesty, I think people should share their views, then trust and support the decisions people have to make for their own beardies. Of course, true neglect and abuse not included in that.

Rather than just rant and say this is all wrong, why not turn this topic into something more productive. Provide some constructive criticism by saying specific things you do not agree with, offering your alternative and why.

I did just watch the video. It's not all bad. There are things that I personally would suggest different things (wood chips are one I would suggest people not use and go with reptile carpet or tile as an alternative... I actually have a few alternative suggestions depending on age and circumstances). The water fountain has pros and cons as well. If it can be done without raising humidity too much, it's a great way to ensure a beardie drinks (many will not drink from still water and let themselves get dehydrated).

Anyway... I just thought I'd try to curb some of the outrage and negativity a little. I am sure the video is geared towards selling products (that enclosure was a bit excessively filled with stuff, I felt), but they ARE a reptile supplier after all. So, I do suggest being civil with your disagreement and use it as an opportunity to share what you think should be done differently and why.

We all have views on what is safe or not. But in the end we are each responsible for making what we feel is the right decision for our pets.

Cheers,
-Alex

If you listen, you will hear that she mentions tile, carpet etc. - but she prefers Sani Chips. Yes, there is certainly a danger with sand and chips, especially if one lets the feeders roam, not to mention very young dragons that nip on everything. I use sand and never had impaction problems, for my feeders never touch the sand. Feeders are offered in a separate space without sand. Food and water is also placed on rocks as to limit the ingestion of sand (needless to say I'd never keep a tiny baby on sand). As to the fountain, the point here is hydration and the aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder. Hydration is very important for dragons. Having said that, keep in mind the high temps in the cage plus the open top will most likely not allow the humidity to rise to unhealthy levels. A Fountain is not my flavor, but I do not consider it wrong for dragons.
As for disclosure, I do not work nor am I related in any way to LLLReptile, however I have met some of their staff at reptile shows and they are always knowledgeable, educated people with a passion for reptiles.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
