New Beardie Owner. I just purchased a little ??guy?? 3 days ago as my Mothers day present I wish I had know there were people closer that I could have gotten my Beardie from(found on forum here a breeder next town over UGGG). I saw a post on craigslist for the baby, and fell in love with the pic he sent me. Of course the pic wasn't of my guy (Typhon), but I still love him just the same. Some advice please.....I do have him temporarily in a 10 gallon. I do know this will NOT last but maybe a month. My husband is actually getting the supplies this weekend to build me a custom setup!! The first day I got him...I did make the mistake of feeding him meal worms.....NOPE won't do that again after reading here.....He ate one med cricket that night too and a super worm....had those from my sons Leopard Gecko....he ate alot the first night I got him home.....and did poop yesterday...Twice!!...quite a lot for a little guy!! After much research and looking here, I have decided to toss the mealworms, and got the stuff to keep crickets, and have even ordered some RepiWorms!! Ok here is my question...he hasn't eaten anthing else now for about 36hrs. He is just basking away....I went and got a 75w basking bulb, an yes I'm using the coil type Repi Glo 10. UVB bulb. Should I be concerned that he hasn't eaten anthing that has been offered in that amount of time. I'm spraying him twice a day for moisture, and after reading here, will give him a bath tonight too!!...The temps are 95 on the warm side and 75-80 on the cooler side(which he never goes to)(Using a probe type, digital Thermo). All he does is bask on his plant all day, and when I come home from work he will hang with me for a bit, but last night he didn't hang out either, wanted to get down and explore....Just want to be sure i'm doing things right...I've read such confilcting things all over the internet, by head is swimming!!!

Aw, what a cutie. You're tank is a little bit cool for such a little baby. The basking side should be 110. Not above that tho. one or two degrees off towards being cooler is fine. Just raise the little one's basking area slowely til it's perfect. He is likely to eat more then. The internet just plain sucks. So confusing! This is honestly the right place to be. Go into the 'enclosure' area and click on 'lighting help for newbies' For food options, check out 'beautiful dragons' I swear by their chart. Hope I helped a little. Welcome to our world :blob5:

Ty.....His basking spot is only about 3 inches below the top of the tank...and I'm using a 75w Basking spotlight bulb, so not sure what to do there. I didn't think with such a small starter tank that I would need anything higher, should I go to 100w?. His Basking spot it just an artificiial tree at the moment. This weekend I play on finding a stump of some sort fo the tank . I have "tied" the probe to his basking "tree", but it keeps getting under a leaf, so i'm thinking that may be y the temp shows low?? Not sure... I'm going to look for a temp gun this week end also. Ty for the compliment...he is sooooo sweet, alert, and curiouse. I can't wait till he gets a bit bigger, from his size i'm thinking he may only be 6-7 Weeks old.

Ok, your best bet is to go to 100 watts as you'll need it for when you get the bigger tank. Not sure why the temps are lower in your tank. You may have to get a CHE as well or as a very last resort, you could try a MVB. I believe the Exoterra one is the only one where no eye issues have been reported. (not 100% sure) It comes in 125 and 150 watt.

So an update. Typhon is in a 30 gallon tank at the moment, and I did go and get the Repti sun 10.0 Tube light. His temps are 110-112 on his basking spot 92 hot end and 80s for the cooler end.

Pic of his Viv

He is still not eating very well. I went and got him med wax worms until his Repti worms come in (Hopefully today). He will take about 3 pieces of Dandelion Greens out of my hand, but then refuses to eat more. Day before yesterday he ate about 7 waxworms and some greens, but yesterday nothing. I do give him a bath every evening in shallow warm water. He seemed very very lagtheric lastnight after his bath. I did also(being a worrier) go get some Repiaid 3 days ago. I gave him one dose then that day he ate the worms. then yesterday nothing, so last night I gave hime another dose....I hate to have to seem like I'm forcing him to eat, but I don't want him to wither and die either.

this pic a Monday night after he had eaten all the worms during the day, and a few while I watched in the evening.

He is pooping at least twice a day, but I feel he should be eating more, am I worring for no reason. He is soooo small. Only 5 1/2 inches long, and I've already had him a week. In that time he has eaten less then I hear people on here saying thier babies eat in a day!!! Any advise would be appreciated. Ty

Still not eating....I swapped out the 100w bulb for the 75w again....I think his basking area was getting wayyyyy too hot during the day. When I came home today his rock area was 120+, so now its right at 110....I think it was too hot. I used the dropper to give him some water tonight, but still not eating...He won't even take the greens out of my hand anymore...I'm thinking of calling the vet tomorrow

I think that would be the best. I would also try baby horned worms. They're packed full of water and might help. Wish you's well. keep us updated.

Wahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....Typhon is (fingers crossed and hoping)....Over his relocation Stress. ON a whim tonight I decided to stop by the local Bensons, and pick up some small crickets. The person I had purchases Typon from (jerk from Craigslist) told me he was eating medium crickets....Well I hadn't read up enough to know that he was lying to me. So for the last 9 days or so I have been trying everyting under the sun to get him to eat...Well tonight I first put in 3-4 dusted small crickets, and OMG....he attacked them. Reminder...He had only eating once since I had gotten him and that was 3 days ago. So I was amazed at the joy he took in pouncing on those little guys....So I put in 4 more....GONE!! ....more ...he stopped at about 10, but i'm not gonna complain because after that he has also devoured about 3 dandalion greens that I hand feed him....Its like a whole new dragon!! He is alert, bouncy ....hungry, and has a night fat little belly that I"m so happy to see now. So I think that its time to indroduce the NEW Typon....The happy Hunter!! :blob8:

Well done! :D So glad to hear the baby is feeling better! :blob5: I'd still mist his greens to keep him hydrated, but that's so great that he's eating!

Yup....he is eating like a little piggy now!!....Crickets don't have a chance!!....I drop in 4-5....he chases and gobbles them down, so I put more....Today he ate about crickets...Not liking his greens now, but I feel sooooo much better that he is eating closer to normal. He is really really small Only about 5.5 inches, so I don't expect him to each much more than that yet. He is pooping good, and it looks good...He gets a bath every other day now, since I want to not be so stressed. I have a larger tank for him, but I'm gonna wait till he gets a little bigger, and more comfortable with this tank. I'm very lucky to have also found that my Dog vet is a Herp vet too, and a memeber here that only lives a couple miles aways swears by him for her babies. Ty all for the great advice, not only when we need help in what we feel is an emergency, but for the every day!!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
