Hi everyone, well I'm looking for a vet around the twin cities, will travel so no specific town. Good and bad experiences, cost of visit and fecal. If you would go back. Also if there is anywhere else that you have had fecal tests done, any info is helpful and I think we should have one for every state really. I havnt seen to many vets or offices named and that info can be helpful. Thanks everyone.

Hi, I thought this list might be helpful to you. I noticed you didn't get any responses so thought I would look up all the herp vets in Minnesota for you. Hope you can find at least one close to you. I got the list from here: http://www.herpvetconnection.com/

Bloomington

Stephen Barghusen, DVM
Pet Crossing Animal Hospital
4015 West Old Shakopee Road
Bloomington, MN 55437
Tel: (612) 884-8248
Comments:
Dr. Barghusen's love is frogs, but he sees all reptiles. He is pretty good and great to talk to. He is easy to work with and has an open mind. I think there are other vets with more in depth knowledge about reptiles, but he is eager and willing to learn and great for basic needs...fecal checks, xrays etc..
Howard Lake

The Housecall Veterinarian
P.O. Box 336
Howard Lake, MN 55349
Tel: (612)636-8038
Fax: (320)286-3277

Comments:
Dr. Shelton sees most every herp, and she does housecall's, really great for my BIG snakes. She is willing to consult with other vets when something is unusual, too. Which is way better than other vets I worked with who just muddled through on their own. She goes into the cities and way out into a lot of the burbs. She owns her own iguana too. (12/01/03)
Inver Grove Heights

John A. Newman, DVM
Southview Animal Hospital
32 West Mendota Road

This is the first herp vet I have had an experience with, and it was DEFINITELY a positive one. I brought my new BP to her for a checkup. She was very helpful, making sure I knew the proper husbandry aspects. (04/09/01)

Comments:
BM - Dr. Osborn is a very enthusiastic and dedicated vet. She has a good medical knowledge of herps and is very easy to work with. (02/25/01)
This vet is constantly learning and striving to meet the demands of ever changing veterinary requirements. If there is something she does not know, she will find it out in a timely manner. She is an excellent surgeon. She once stitched up an Iguana that was attacked by a ferret. She specializes in herps as well as feline, canine, birds, and large animals. (07/23/04)

Dr. Troye
Como Park Animal Hospital
1014 North Dale Street
Saint Paul, MN 55117
Tel: (651) 487-3255
Comments:
Email - This clinic is a wonderful resource for reptile care, besides the more common pets such as cats, dogs, and birds. I'm so thankful I found them. They have nursed the sick water dragon I adopted back to health. Staff people own reptiles as well as offer advice. (02/08/02)
South St. Paul

Dr. David Abramowicz DVM
South St Paul Animal Hospital
501 Concord Street North
South Saint Paul, MN 55075

Former student of Dr Newman; Dr Newman has been retired for several years now, and lives in Georgia. Vet self-recommended (11/04/05)
Janell Osborn, DVM
South St. Paul, MN
Tel: (651) 455-6540
Comments:
This vet does house calls only. She also studied under John A. Neuman and often uses his facilities to do her tests and lab work. She is a bit pricy since she charges for mileage, but I have also found her to be the most up to date on new medical procedures and to have the most connections to other vets to find answers to medical problems.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness you are so helpful to me (besides 1 other person you are the only one that's replied to me Pebbles and Bam Bam really appreciate it :D ). I also pm'd a user that is from the cities after reading something from her on some of the topics I read (I read so many of them). She told me:

Como Park Animal Hospital in St. Paul (really close, only 5 mins. I did know about that one) http://comoparkanimalhospital.com/index.html "Dr. Chris Casey seemed to be knowledgeable about beardie husbandry and care the one time I brought my boy in."
$70 exam fee and around $45 for fecal

Valley View Pet Hospital in Burnsville http://www.valleyviewvet.com/ "I highly highly recommend valley view pet hospital in Burnsville. The vets there are all exotics specialists. I had a very sick beardie who is now recovering well thanks to Dr. Nalezny, she went above and beyond what I would have expected out of a vet! Dr. Larry is also great, he helped me a couple times with my other female who had a bad lay a couple years ago."
exam fee $62-64? (Best guess couldn't find an old Bill)
Follow up is $32.50
Fecal $44.50
X-Ray $66.45
Blood Test $100-130 depending on in house or
sent out

I have also read good things about both for bearded dragons and reptiles.

Anybody else?

Unless I couldn't find it I havnt seen anything like this on the threads. This post topic could really help people around here. Please write your experiences. I will tell the lady I was talking with about this thread and maybe she will tell everybody more. I hope she does not mind what I did quote from her but I made sure to leave out personal info just in case, so I don't think she will. I meant to copy this info earlier to share but my Pebbles laid 20 eggs and I was really busy.

Hello, I'm the one who gave Kbro that above info :)

To expand a bit, Dr. Nalezny does have her own practice and does house calls. I have no idea about the costs for that service since I have never needed it, but here is her website: http://www.aevhs.com/about.html
She is at Valley View Monday, Tuesday, and every other Saturday. As I mentioned though Dr.'s Larry and Michelle Tholl are both excellent too!

Regarding Como Park, the link above mentions Dr. Troye. She is actually the wife of Dr.Chris Casey who I mentioned did a great job with my boy a couple years ago. I went back there for a follow up later and met with Dr. Wetherill (who I think is the owner) but I was not impressed...he tried to tell me with proper lighting adjustments I could force my dragons to stay out of brumation

Scully's first ever vet visit was actually at Elm Creek Animal Hospital. I was looking for a vet a bit closer to home than Valley View (I live in Brooklyn Park now) and came across their site and saw that the owner, Dr. Reierson, had some reptile experience. It was a strange visit, he came in and immediately proclaimed that Scully had MBD (she doesn't), then took her back for a blood sample - while he was doing that he put in a really old VHS tape for me on the proper husbandry for various reptiles. An odd visit, needless to say I decided the trek to Burnsville for Valley View was well worth it.

Anyway, those have been my experiences. Can't recommend Valley View enough! I just wish they were closer to the cities!

Nice that you shared that info. Hopefully it will help other owners that live in that area. :)

Yes thank you, I just didn't want to post your info without permission just incase. Thank you for responding to my private message in the first place about what vet you preferred. I then thought to make this topic since I think it's good to know people's personal experiences. That is really strange that he put on a video I've never heard of anything like that. I guess he was trying to help but if you didn't know better it could have been bad. How outdated was it? That is also why I like the names of the vet's as well. Then you know who knows, seemed to know and who people had complications with about care.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
