right now he's frightened. its not because he's mean or feral, its just because he thinks you are a threat.
ive had to tame a very aggressive beardie before and i promise with some love and patience its possible for any dragon to be tamed.
the sock is a good place to start.
here are a things ive learnt about taming.
Firstly dont ever grab or go to pick him up from above or behind. its predatory behaviour and he will FREAK. Also if he hisses at you or even lunges BE BRAVE. Dont ever flinch around your beardie. Just remove your hand. Even if he bites you, it really doesnt hurt. If you have to pick him up put your hand flat infront of him and slide it underneathe. If you do it quick you can do it before he bolts.
Is he a good eater? If he is then you could try the food removal technique. Some people think this is a bit unfair but its how I got my difficult ones not to bite or hiss. Basically you go to only hand feeding them. you lower your hand into the tank, if he lunges you remove his food. give it back to him later and leave you hand palm up in the tank. if he lunges again take out the food. mine have all gotten so distracted by me taking away their food that they ended up forgetting to be mean to me. this does however only work if they are biggggg eaters.
Also, try bonding with him when he is tired. Try first thing in the morning, or after he has been sleeping for an hour or two. He will be dozy and less inclined to go straight into panic mode. Quickly place him onto your lap (it helps if you are nice and warm, i used to use a nearly empty hotwater bottle under my jumper) and let him come around. Dont pet him or touch, just let him get used to you. I used to do it in the morning before lights-on with dex. Id get her out whilst she was still sleeping and put her onto my bathrobe.
If he is waking up and bolting right away then you can try the "big enclosure" technique. This is where its just you and him in a small space (a small room will work, but if not you can create your own "pen" by blocking off an area). So you take him sleepy and put him onto your lap, if he bolts its just you and him still. Let him roam around or beard at you all he wants in the enclosure. Stay reasonably quiet and still and he will get used to your presence. Do this a few times before you go for any extra touching.
If you need any other ideas let me know :]
