Hello beardeddragon.org...

I have just purchased my first lizard, Rek. He (i'm assuming its a he anyway, it is too young to be determined apparently) has been with me for three days now and is eating as many crickets as I can throw at him but seems to steer clear of his greens.
I have tried him on exactly the same mixture he was eating in the shop and have added some meal worms to add some movement to the dish, the sly begger sits and watches the bowl waiting for them to crawl out of the side and eats them off the floor. I know that he can see into the bowl and can see the movement.

Rek is still a baby and is about 10 inches from tip to tail, he seems to be acting normally and is getting enough calcium supplement off the crickets so i'm not too worried at this stage.

What I want to know is;
Is this normal?
If not what can cause this?
What can I do to get him eating greens?

any help or opinions will be deeply appreciated.

Don't worry about it. They will usually ignore greens until around one year of age. (around 20 inches)
Don't feed him mealworms very often at all. They can impact beardies. A treat once and a while is okay, but they are not a great staple.

Normal :D Almost all young beardies reject their greens until they are older. Mine were awful! I finally got them to eat some by putting silkworms in with the greens. The silkworms stuck to the leaves and my beardie was forced to take bits of greens into his mouth along with the worms. Otherwise just keep offering them, he may surprise you and start eating them out of boredom or curoiosity. Good luck, I know it can be frustrating, but don't give up!

Thanks for the reassurance and advice guys, i've read conflicting views on meal worms but the majority backs up what has been said here.

Thanks again :)

Well, you were right. Today little Rek started eating greens completely out of the blue.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
