Do you have hornworms now , the medium or large ? Those are amazing, I think 2 mediums or one large earlier in the day, and if she loves veggies, pile up the plate with greens. Then offer her more bugs [ maybe 1 more hornworm] later in the afternoon.
I can dispatch my Mum to pick some up after she gets off work lol. I rent the basement suite downstairs, which is handy, because my landlord is super nice
So she snuck out another egg last night after I went to bed. Makes up a total of 20. She seems alert, head is up, eyes open today, though she's clearly exausted. Ate four superworms last night and we're picking up horn worms today. Might even try and offer her a pinkie mouse, I've heard that can be good after laying eggs?
It sounds like she's doing well, eating already is a good sign. I think she's best off with the hornworms and a few superworms every day, and keep up with the greens with a bit of calcium powder.
Ate some crickets today and has nibbled on her salad. She definitely knows what her body needs, she's after bugs way more than salad. She drank a lot this morning and later this afternoon(for a beardie) from a spare syringe that we got when she and her boyfriends went to the vet. The boys are going nuts today, I think they know she laid eggs and they are running back and forth around their respective cages.
That's great, she is recuperating just fine, so it looks like she's going to be O.K. You can give her crix twice a day to get some weight on her, or crix and hornworms or superworms divided up into 2 feedings. Lots of good food, water + calcium and hopefully her egg laying is over. If not, at least you will know what to do next time . I hope she continues to improve !
Had some more crickets tonight that she munched down. She's not eating very much salad today, I think she knows that her body needs protein.
Have been pondering all day about what to do with the eggs. Emailed around to some local breeders and only one got back to me, and then gave me the runaround about picking them up. If all the eggs hatch, he has a potential to make around $1100, based on local pricing. Apparently it's not worth five dollars worth of gas.
No idea what will happen to them... I may have to throw them out.
So, update on the two males. Stumpy is doing the best, but he went much longer in his life with decent care from the original owner, before the brother took them on and nearly killed them, so he was in the "best" shape to begin with. He's got a nice round belly now and his double-chin look is coming back in around his beard. Buddy, the smaller male, is starting to fill out around his tail base and in his stomach, I can't see the bones at the base of his tail anymore. He's also in shed! Probably his first shed in a long time!
As for Missy, she is still eating really well, but I can see a lot of bones. She's active and getting some of her pale coloration back which is good, because she darkened right up after she laid her eggs.
It's nice to hear that the males are gaining weight + looking healthy. Being that they are adults, watch that they don't gain too much and go the other way to become fat dragons And I was wondering how Missy is doing, I'm glad that she is active and eating well...are you able to feed her live food twice a day ? That will help put weight back on more quickly. It's pretty hard for them to gain weight when they are developing eggs, hopefully she is not gravid again. But you're doing a great job, those lizards never dreamed they'd land in the lap of luxury.
With the males, I'm pretty much giving them what a normal adult would eat, plus some extra protein. I don't think they're going to get fat, they're just gaining so much because the food is a lot for them.
How awful for poor Missy, as if she hasn't been through enough! If your going to 'dispose' of the ends I would recommend freezing them first. Sounds awful but it's actually more humane
Stumpy has found a home!
His new Daddy went and bought all the stuff he needed to build a good 4x2x2 this week and he'll be going to his new home on January 23rd.
So Missy appears to be gravid again. Her skin is darkening up like it did last time, big belly, skinny tail. I was prepared for this to happen but a big part of me is like "ug, not again" because she's still way too small. Hopefully she just does two clutches which sounds like it's about average, and then I can work on fattening her up. She ate a ton of super worms today, and I figure we've got another week or so before she lays.
Poor girl! Hopefully in the next week you can get lots of protein down her! I have read this whole story and I am glad you saved these guys, and I am also glad that Stumpy found a new home!
