I am getting a new bearded dragon in a few weeks - they are at the pet store but still too young to sell. I live in NM right now which is great for herps and will be easy to maintain temp and humidity but this summer I am moving back to Massachusetts and I am wondering if anyone has info/tips on living in a cold humid climate with a reptile. Also how to safely travel with the lil guy- I will stop at a hotel once or twice but no more than that on the 2000 mile plus trip...

Thanks for your help!

Keeping beardies in colder climates is exactly the same as keeping them in more moderate climate, besides the fact that you will need a higher wattage bulb to give you the temperatures you need :)

As for traveling, that is a tricky one. It will depend on how long the trip is going to take.

Thanks, yah I just worry about the humidity, in MA it can be 100% most days... I am dreading those sticky, soggy mornings but that is where I am headed.

I think I will take him to the vet before my drive, its 2000 miles... I have drove that route before just going to the opposite way and it should take about 2 -3 days. I guess food might be out of the question since I cant keep him at the appropriate temps but I can definitely give him a bath or something when we stop...

when i'm traveling alone with our beardie, he rides shotgun in his carrier with the front seat heater on high, which seems to keep him toasty enough. if the family is along, then he gets the back seat (still in his carrier) on a heating pad plugged into a converter which plugs into the car. we take our boys with us everywhere, and their favorite spot in the car is on the dash where they can watch the world go by...

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
