TRAVELING !!!! HELP!!!

HI THERE,

i am going to be going to a cabin for 5 days.
cant bring his humongous cage.
so i have this light fixture.
its an halogen/flourescent combo dome by zill, 9.5 inches.

its the desert 50 series


please help me

I don't know much about the combo fixtures...so I can't help there. But is your main concern UVB and heat? Or is a cage the big problem? If it's a cage, depending on the size of your beardie, you could buy a smaller tank maybe to take with you...that may cost a bit, though. I've heard of using plastic rubbermaid tubs, but I wouldn't personally recommend that.
I've dreaded being in your situation and still haven't figured out what we would do (we do have 2 extra 20 gallon long tanks we *could* use). I'm so so sorry I couldn't help more .

However, please, please don't use that bulb. I bought it when I first brought my boy home, and the change in him was almost instant- he stopped eating, stopped moving, and just sat under his log with his eyes clamped closed all the time. Never been so freaked out in my life, I was convinced I'd killed him. I only had it on there for 3 days, and it took him almost a week to start acting normal again. Zilla is supposed to be fixing the issue, but I don't know if they actually have yet, and I know for a fact pet stores kept selling them even though they were recalled, so it's impossible to say if you have one that will hurt him or just a sub-par bulb.

I would buy a 10 gal glass tank and bring your lights from home........set on top like your big viv -- maybe even put a screen on, and set the lights on that. Maybe add the hide, blankey, or what you can so beardie feels familiar. I use my 10 gal as a cricket feeder tank anyway - so it has a dual use.

I'm not sure the OP is saying that's the UVB or not actually a UVB, but what is "said" to be an UVB. I think they maybe talking about the fixture, not the bulbs...I don't know though. I'm not familiar with my "bulb names" lol. But, yes, I agree if that's a "UVB", than it's not a good one. Just thought I'd try to get that one clarified, as I wasn't sure when I read the post either as to what lights were being used, so I just addressed the question (glad you asked ...I didn't have the "guts" to after a recent response to some of my questions, but I was wondering the exact same thing).

when we travel I use the lights from home and a smaller tank, we've got a 20 gallon tank that we will use if we will be staying over night somewhere besides home. I know its not very comfy for them, but they will be fine for just a couple of nights in a smaller tank.
