Took my beardie to a specialist; left with more questions

Thank you so much for getting back to me already. I have her in her laybox right now and I figured out a way to get her heating lamp to be above it so that it's nice and warm. Usually I just put my space heater near it, but I feel it was still too cold. Also, although she slept with her tail curled up last night, her tail is normal today. So that makes me feel a little better. I will definitely try giving her a little olive oil mixed with applesauce later (I've done this before when she's constipated). I hope I'm right that this is eggs and not something else. She was a bit constipated before but she had a big poop three days ago and then pooped again the next day. Looking back on this thread, it seems she laid her first clutch May 10th last year, so it's not surprising to me that she might be laying again now. If the person you know who has experience breeding would be able to offer their advice, I would definitely appreciate it! As always, I really appreciate your help.

Hi there, you might try a nice warm soak because sometimes that causes them to try to expel waste and in doing so they may actually push an obstructing egg out. If you look at her vent today can you see anything at all at the opening ? If she ends up really having trouble you may need to get her to the vet, call + say it's an emergency because a beardie can die if they get eggbound. A shot of Oxytocin might be needed. I hope things turn out O.K. !

Thank you. I will try the soak. I can't see anything at the opening now. I actually have a shot of Oxytocin the vet gave me from last year when she was having issues not laying her eggs, and they instructed me on how to do it. I wonder if it's still good and if I should give to her. Of course, I will see if I can call a vet and ask before I do anything like that.

Also, I just looked at her opening and see what looks like a bit of brown. I wonder if she needs to poop? I'm surprised because like I said she pooped two days ago and the day before that she had a very large poop.

I'm just so worried. The reason it's difficult for me to go to the vet is because I live in NYC and the vet is far away and I would have to take public transit, which scares me because of this pandemic and I live with an immunocompromised person. It's a really difficult situation but I will do what I have to do if necessary. I might try to make a telemedicine appointment first.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to mention that when I just gave her a bath I noticed she drank a ton of water, and is still drinking water after I took her out and offered it to her. I have no idea if this is a coincidence or if it has to do with the situation now.

Aw that's really tough, I know that NYC has been a mess. Definitely try the phone appointment if possible. Don't risk your health. Hydration might help her to move things along so see what happens yet today. I feel for you, hang in there !

Thank you. I'm scared but I'm even more scared of her dying. One of her vets (I've taken her to so many..) actually does do telemedicine appointments! To be honest she is not the most knowledgable on reptiles but she may be able to help. However, Liz just made a small poop. It looks a bit dried out, if that makes any sense. I wonder if this was all constipation. I'm going to see if she will eat a little. Thank you again for listening to all my concerns.

Hopefully it is just constipation, that's the best case scenario for sure ! Does she usually drink much or even at all ?

Yes, I would much rather be dealing with this than egg binding. She doesn't usually drink much honestly. She will sometimes drink in the bath and I mist her and her food but I feel I should have been doing it more often. I only recently got a device to measure the humidity and found that her tank is rather dry (usually around 30% humidity or sometimes even a little less).

O.K, see how she does today after her big drink. Humidity sounds good, it could go up but either way is fine.

Following along, wondering how Liz is today?

Hi! Thank you for asking. Liz seems to be doing okay. She drank a lot more water yesterday and even ate a bit of her greens. She didn't want any superworms which makes me think she might still have eggs because she normally always goes for them. She's in her laybox right now but she hasn't done anything yet. I will give her another bath soon and hopefully that will help. Thankfully she's not really doing the tail lifting thing like she was yesterday morning.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to give an update on Liz. She seems to be acting mostly normal, but her appetite is a bit decreased. She will still eat her greens but won't eat superworms. I'm wondering if maybe it's because she's tired of them. Before we were giving her mostly dubias until she decided she didn't want them anymore but would eat the superworms, which is why we switched recently. Also she has still been very thirsty. Part of me thinks it is eggs, but I'm not totally sure anymore. Anyways, on the whole she is doing okay, but I hope she will start eating bugs again soon.

Sorry for another update so soon! I just gave Liz a bunch of dubia roaches and she ate them. So maybe she just needed a change of bug?

She only had four which isn't a lot, but we never usually feed her this early so I'll have to see if she wants some more tonight.

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
