Too Much Heat? Helpp!!!

k so my mother being the heat freak she is turned on the pellet stove today and my bearded dragon tank is right next to it , i didn't notise till i got home why it was so warm so i ran downstairs to check and the pellet stove was on full , the temps in his tank on BOTH SIDES were over 120+ thats only as high as my temps would go! but my mother wont let me move my bearded dragon because shes scared hes gonna get out please help? when i got home he was almost asleep and in the shade please help!!

Gosh, that's a problem. You must let her know that an over heated dragon can get seriously dehydrated. I guess you could give her an option, let her hold the beardie while you move the tank or you could find a box to put him in for a while until you get the viv moved. Good luck.

I agree, that is a real problem. Too high of heat can cause dehydration very rapidly and the heat from a pellet stove could diminish every bit of the humidity which makes it even more dangerous.

Since your thermometers only go to 120 degrees, it sounds like you're using either the round gauge or strip thermometers which can actually be 20 degrees off so it could be even hotter yet. You would need to use either an infrared temperature gun or a digital thermometer with a probe end.

You need to try very hard to get your mom to let you move his tank. If there is a top on it, I don't understand why she is worried about him getting out. He won't be able to survive those extreme temps very long at all. You need to act fast!

she did it again! im gonna stop going to school if she keeps on turning on , i decided to use a infrared tempeature gun and his temps were 144! i immediatly took him out and mised him and gave him a bath , this is makeing me really mad

You need to sit down with your mom and discuss this, it would actually be a good idea if she read these posts so she can understand how dangerous and deadly those high temps are to your beardie.

I don't understand why his tank can't be moved away from the pellet stove. Where do you live that is so cold that you need to use that for heat already?

my mother is addicted to heat , we live in canada and she starts it in about october , and she even turned the heat up in our hotel room...IN FLORIDA! you prob think im lieing im not im serious she did , she dosent treat the lizard as an acualt pet she thinks its like a fish or something , just a little $3 thing , if she kills my lizard im gonna flip out and kill her dog

I actually didn't think you were lying but now that I just read your recent comments, I'm not sure it's on the "up & up." I would hope that this isn't made up because if it is, it's taking precious time away from a beardie that really needs the utmost attention in the ER forum because time is being spent here on your thread.

Explain and cry...the lizard is going to die if you do not move it....if this does not work take the punishment for defying and move the lizard or give him up to somebody that can care for him properly.The beardie IS going to die in those temps...Sooo.....think about the beardies well being......not revenge on your moms dog.

Thinking about it, I doubt she would wrestle the tank away from you, and anywhere is better than where it is atm. So I would just up and move it, even if you have to put it on your bedroom floor for now. If she works can you not just move it while she is out?
