TONS of Questions...

Alright, I have tons of questions that I have about beardie care. List the number of the question you would like to answer.
1) What wattage ReptiSun10.0 would be best?
2) Where can I find a good tank at a low-ish cost?
3) How do you keep Reptiworms?
4) What wattage basking bulb is best (what kind of bulb)?
5) What kind of tiles should I get for the tank (where)?

That's all I can think of, but there will probably be more.
Thanks!

For question #2 - Petco has sales on tanks a lot lately. It's the $1 per gallon sale. www.petco.com I got two 40G breeder tanks for $40 each. Really great deal. Other than that you can check on Craigslist.

For question #3 - I leave them in the tubs that they come in. When it's time to feed, I put however many I need to use in their dish and wait for about 5 minutes then put the dishes in their tanks. Plus there is no need to feed the reptiworms  Oh, and if you are their friend on Facebook you can get some really great deals. I'm using a code from facebook and I'm getting 20% off!

Those are the two I can help you with. The others I really can't say what is the best. I hope I helped you out some

1) I think they are all 18 or 24 watts. Get the one that will fit the lighting fixture you have for it. The reptisuns arent made for heat but to put out uv.
2) I dont know if its still going on but petco had a $1 per gallon sale not to long ago. I would check there and just go to your local pet shops and see who will give you the best deal for a tank... When I did this it turned out a family owned shop had better prices and took better care of thier animals.
3) Reptiworms will stay good in room temperature in a cup, no feeding, for 3 weeks. part of the reason why they are such a nice feeder. However if you want them to stay good for longer they can be kept in a cooler (not a refrigerator they will die) and they can last for months this way.
4) For a 20 gallon it is reccomended to start at a 75 watt household bulb. But everything varys and depends on the outside enviroment as well. Just try to keep the temps between 100-110 in the basking area if they are young. I use a halogen 75 watt bulb from petsmart and i really like it so far.
5) For tile you can pick up slate for really cheap at lowes.

1) What wattage ReptiSun10.0 would be best?
The reptisun 10.0 tubes are the best.

2) Where can I find a good tank at a low-ish cost?
The petco $1 gallon sale, I think its still on, but won't be for much longer. Go get a 40 gallon breeder!

3) How do you keep Reptiworms?
I keep 1000 of them in the container they come in and put them in my wine cooler. They seem to be fine in there for a month at a time till I buy new ones.

5) What kind of tiles should I get for the tank (where)?
Go to Lowes not homedepot. Because Lowes will cut them for you if you need them cut. Basically any tile that feels a little rough to the touch and not too slippery would be good I think. Usually the slate seems to be the most preferred. Also look into the soft rolled up shelf liner. That can be just as good as tile, and may even be easier to clean, and safer than the tile too since it's less porous than slate/stone.

Don't worry about the wattage.. You just need to purchase the Reptisun 10.0 fluorescent bulb in the size that you will need for your tank.. and you will need a T8 fluorescent fixture that you can purchase at walmart..

Alright, I was unsure about that, so thanks for the info! I read on the care sheet here that he said to use a Porcelain Clamp Lamp. Would a ceramic fixture work too? What kind?
Alright, another question...
I have to wake up for school a about 6:00-6:30 to get ready. My mom stays till about 8:00, then goes to work. Would she have to turn the lights on in the tank and feed him greens? Is 6:00 to early?
Thanks again!

OK, more question!
I live in Maine (hence my name), so in the winter, the temps in our house get around 65-70. What is an inexpensive solution to keep the temps on the "cool side" around 85, and not have not go down to about 55 during the night? I really hate winter in Maine....mumble....mumble...

Yeah i'm pretty sure the ceramic would work fine.. U just don't want to use anything that could melt.. As far as the lighting goes... You want to make sure that the lights are on at least an hour before you feed...I purchased a timer power strip from lowes for about $20 and my lights come on @ 6am and I usually feed Scarlett around 7 or 7:30 and then they go off @ 9:00.. Don't get the power strip timer from a pet store b/c u are going to pay double the price..

Are u referring to the night time temps? If they stay above 65 @ night then you are fine if not then the only safe thing to do is to use a ceramic heat emitter.. Any type of under the tank heater is dangerous.. (not that u said u were going to use one.. just pointing that out)

No, during the day, the cool side of the tank. We have our house around 65 during the day.
Thanks for the feedback!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
