To leash or not to leash help

Ok so draco got a new leash about a week ago...he hates it he puffs up about the size of a hockey puck and lays there black beareding..i only had it on him for about 5 mins and i wont put on tight like the pet store lady said because im scared he'll hurt himself so i try every other day so he can get used to but the only reason why i have one is because hes 5 months old and trys to go out the screen door but i want him to be able to get sun...what should i do...i feel like im hurting him

As long as you've checked the leash over and there are no hard edges or things pinching him, then you're not hurting him, he's just letting you know he's not thrilled with the whole leash thing. Be persistent - the safest way to take your dragon outside is definitely with a secure harness and leash. In time he should get used to it.

Your not alone Chimera hates his new leash too I still put it on him everyday even tho it makes him mad intill he gets used to it. I hope its soon lol

The first time I put Scorch's leash on there was total drama. Try letting him do something new or something you know he likes when you put the leash on so he will associate it with having a good time. That worked for me.

Lol well thanks..i put it on him lastnight once again not a happy draco..but i feel safer with him undercontrol around the doors and when hes outside. he ran from me lastnight and went to my boyfriend and ran up his chest..lol i feel unloved

Breyas isn't too thrilled with his leash, either. However, there are too many hiding places where he could disappear in our house to let him run free, not to mention a little dog that really wants a lizard. Once he realized that he can go pretty much anywhere he wants he started adjusting to the leash. I'm also a little afraid to pull it too tight. Can pressure on the spines be uncomfortable for him??

I'm not adding anything new. Just agreeing to keep at it a little bit each day. Start increasing the length of time the leash is on.

If he still hates it, why not try a wire mesh viv for outdoors. That is what we use on Bernie when it was warm enough. We put a piece of drift wood in there and he soaked up as much rays as we let him.
