To greedy and Choking on food.

Has anyone else had to *SAVE THEIR FREAKING BEARDIES LIFE* because they have simply gotten too greedy and devoured 30 bugs in maybe 5 seconds flat? Seriously Mouth hanging open, chest collapsing trying to breathe... had to massage his throat to get him to slowly swallow. Now he's pissed at me because I took his food away.

I've seen them hold food in their beards before. It's best to offer them food in small batches giving them a bit of time to settle before offering a new batch. It's OK if it takes a little longer but it's better to keep them from overdoing it which can cause serious problems.

Beardies, especially the little ones, can be voracious eaters. I reccomend only offering a few bugs at a time to make sue they go down right. If he sees, say, 30 at one time he is bound to get excited :lol:

Just feed a few, wait a minute, then feed a few more.

Good to know. He's my sons dragon, we just figured he was picking up my sons bad habits, ?

Can be very scary to witness, on a few occasions my big girl Rex has over eaten , buk choi , or superworms or large superworms .... they have the ability clear the throat blockage themselves , very distressing to watch though.

As already suggested , a few bugs at a time is best.
