Hey, I recently read that Silkworms are REALLY good for beardies and i want to get them. But theres one problem, I am like DEATHLY afraid of ANYTHING that makes webs  *shudder* I really wanna get them because their so good for them but URRG i just cant get over it. Is there anyway so i can just get passed this fear? should i just feed him something else with the nutritional value close to them, or just suck it up and stop being a baby?heh heh:)

I'm petrified of insects but I kept reading about how good for dubia are for beardies so I broke down and ordered them for her, and I got past my fear enough to feed her (but still flip out when grasshoppers attack in the back yard). I'm also kinda freaked out by how silkworms look but as soon as I get a mini fridge I'm ordering a combo pack with silkworms in it. I think it makes a difference when the insects are in a controlled environment and are going to be fed to our babies ;) good luck!

Yeah I guess I never thought of that, in the fridge their heartbeat will be slowed so they won't move... aka not make webs! I just hope my parents won't mind having worms by our food :p

Grasshoppers still scare the crap out of me, being ninja like >.> but next to web making insects, I am terrified of boxelder bugs

Keeping them in a normal fridge will kill them faster. Im in the same boat with this whole worm and beetle thing. My husband does not care so I plan to have him do most of that.

If keeping them in a normal fridge kills them, where should I put them?

oh ya should've said the mini fridge is for the hornworms and reptiworms that come in the combo pack. silkworms cant go in the fridge :( they just have to be kept in their pod they come in.

Its not really webs they make, it feels different then spider webs. Its more like a really thin cottony thread.

Worms freak me OUT - on a large scale. However, Tiki needs to gain weight, so I got waxworms. It's a good warm-up worm, LoL.

Granted, I have to use chop sticks to get them out for her, and I don't really see me moving past that anytime this week. Maybe just start with a single worm before all the silkies come!

Also, when you love that little dragon more than you ever thought possible - strange things start to happen.

I am SCARED TO DEATH of spiders. As far as I'm concerned, they can all burn in hell. I saw one the other day about three feet from Tiki's house - yes, I was still VERY displeased, but I said, "Oh no you don't!" Grabbed a tissue and smooshed it. It could hurt my baby! Usually I just use the mop to smoosh them so I can stay AS FAR AWAY AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.

Good luck Jpiroden!

Hehe, yeah it's amazing what we do for our beardies :) and thanks lol the only reason I'm not grossed out by supers it 1 they don't make webs 2 I did a science experiment in school with them, we had to raise them to beetle form.

Oh and I knew silks don't make "webs" but it's close Enough for me :mrgreen and herpgirl, THANKS for telling me that, that made EVERYTHING better!

I have seen Superworms. They are TOO MUCH WORM! /shiver I don't think I would feel good about feeding those to Tiki - they're massive!!!

And I only have years of sushi obsession to thank for how awesome I am with chopsticks. Who knew they'd be used for live worms one day. Blech.

Hehe, my Khomez is a big boy. He need big worms! I had a dish that I used to put penny's in, now it's Khomez's food dish(it was washed, of course)

Silkies make something more like thread, not like a then, sticky spider web. If you don't like the feel of that though, just get a set of tongs and use those. Your dragon will thank you. :)

Supers are great once your dragon is over about 16" long. They are interesting to keep because they will eat their way through things like plastic bags etc. I keep mine in smaller tupper-ware like containers with mesh-steel screening in the tops to cover the airholes. I had one container the pet shop gave me that used some sort of thin nylon mesh to cover the air holes - the supers ate through it in about 20 minutes.

I'm sure he will thank me:) I haven't checked, does BD.co carry silkies for a good price?

I keep my supers in a critter keeper, I use my tweezers like a spear and go super spear fishing! I usually put like oatmeal to keep them from eating each other. I'm not really skilled in the art of "Gutloading" :p

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
