Time for a new bulb...what to do what to do?

So it's time for me to replace Mater's MVB. It is a PowerSun and I have had no problems with it at all. Mater is happy, healthy, and thriving. However, now that it is time to change the bulb and all the issues that have come up with MVB's I'm having a hard time choosing the next bulb.

So my question is...if I go the MVB route again what bulb should I get? Or should I scrap the MVB all together and go for a Reptisun 10.0 tube light? I'm set up for both because right now he's got just a regular tube light for additional lighting so it wouldn't be a big deal either way.

I am using the mega ray 60 watt eb setup. This bulb gives of little to no heat and we control the temps with the house bulb that we use, we change the wattage of the bulb to keep the heat where we need it to be. The reason I am is that our house is close to 80 degrees F in the summer and the trex we had last year got their tanks up to 120 which is way to hot for them. We have had this one installed in their tanks for just under 3 weeks now, and their appetite is better with this current setup than it was last year with the t-rex setup we had, which was better for their appetite than the reptisun 10 was. I know the Mega rays were causing problems for awhile and I got it after they fixed the problem. I have had no problems with this setup.

The reason I mentioned this is to ask what the temps of your room generally are in the summer. If the room you keep your beardie's viv in is a generally hot room you might want to go with a bulb that doesn't get really hot. I suggest the mega ray. The 100 watt ones will get your tank hotter than the mvb you are currently using. From what I've read the t-rex 100 watt is hotter than the powersun 100 watt, and the mega ray 100 watt is hotter than the t-rex 100 watt.

I hope this little book helps you to decide which setup is better for your beardie. I do know that if you contact reptileuv by email one I do know is [email protected] if you tell them, in detail what your setup is they will tell you whether their mega ray will work with your system or not. They are more concerned with the health of your reptile than making a little money. In fact, they mentioned that any profit they make off of the sales of their products go toward rescues.

Thank you! We are in a different house this summer since we moved and come to think of it the room he is in does seem to be warmer than the others on the warm days that we've had so far this year.

I was just wandering if it would be best to scrap the MVB altogether since they seem to be having so many issues as of late. Have those all been resolved?

I believe the mega ray's have, except for a few oddball beardies, I've only heard of one or two that have had trouble with their eyes and that's a maybe. As I said, I use the eb setup and I really like this bulb better than the t-rex we had last year. As far as uvb goes, it's better for our girls than anything we've used to date. If you are concerned about heat, try this setup, initially it's expensive as, at first, you must buy the 60 watt eb bulb and the ballast box together that costs about $95 including shipping, if you are in the continental US. Canada adds additional shipping costs. I really like how it's improved our girls' in the last 3 weeks.
