hi, i have some questions on exactly what kinda of tile to use as substrate.. someone said ceramic tiles, but that's what we have in our bathroom i think, and i put my bd down on it and he cant get a grip on it, he slides. so i was wondering if i could use a slate tile, like the kind you usually use outside? that's the only thing i could think of that he wouldn't be sliding on.

i have cage carpet right now, but i want to switch to tile because his nails are getting very sharp and i'm afraid i'll hurt him if i try to cut them myself.. and i don't think i'd trust anyone else to do it either.. haha

I used slate tiles that are made for use indoors - like kitchen floors. Got them at Home Depot, a couple dollars a piece. They are heavy, feel like ceramic on the sides, but are textured on the top and sort clay-like on the bottom. I have the textured side facing up in the viv.

Hope that helps.

Wouldn't that make it hard to clean up poop? I'm in the "searching for the perfect substrate" phase myself. Am thinking slate tiles with the slate side up, but like you said, they are soo heavy.

I have a slightly textured ceramic tile, its enough for your dragon to grip without sliding but its slick enough for an easy clean up. I have it grouted in and it stays so clean its niceeeeeee

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
