Tile?

This might belong in the enclosure section, but GD get the most attention, so move if needed.

I was wondering what you guys thought of housing a beardies terrarium with tile. I have seen a few and it looks pretty cool really. My baby girl is about 8.5-9 inches and I was wondering what the pros/cons are to tile.

Thanks all!

In my opinion, tile is the best substrate available. Slate tile will help keep you beardie's nails filed down and will provide traction, though I found that out after I got ceramic and it has worked out fine. Some folks grout it in, and others leave it loose to remove for cleaning.

I use ceramic tile but am switching to slate when my boyfriend and I start building the custom vivs. I've had no problem with ceramic, just like the natural nail filing of slate. Tile I find to be a lot easier to clean and you don't have to replace like sand and eventually carpet. Plus, no risk of impaction. I just bought some of the pink cleaning solution from beardeddragon.co and use that to clean the tile in the cage.

I use slate tile bought from Home Depot and it is very easy to clean. Mine is not fixed to the viv and I can take the soiled piece out and clean it individually.

What was hard to clean about it? Just the fact that if you didn't get to their "mess" right away it would stick to it pretty bad?

I really really dislike carpet, two of mine use a sand-like substrate and are totally fine with it and haven't had any problems with going to the bathroom. The baby is on newspaper but she likes to get up under it and run around and funny stuff like that (doesn't stress her, I think she's just exploring).

I have slate tile in Jango's viv.. it's very easy to clean and Jango loves to lay on it under his basking light.. as others have said as well.. it helps keep their nails filed down.

I'm switching over from carpet to tile tomorrow. For easy of cleaning and the nail issue. I've also had some live food sneak under the carpet.

It was impossible to get the poo off when I came home from school. Even if I cleaned it up immediately some would still stick. It would also stain. I even tried to take it outside to spray it down and it wouldn't come off. The tile also wouldn't fit in the tank because it was an eight of an inch too big.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
