Tile questions

Hi,
I am currently in the process of building my own enclosure.
I have plans to use tile and was about to start that project when someone told me the following:
- Unless I use Mastic glue to hold the tiles down they will pop out due to the expansion and contraction of the wood underneath in different temps.
- I need to use non- sanded grout and to make the space between the tiles very small to avoid cracking?

This would be the first time i have ever put tiles down myself so i was hoping someone who has done this in their enclosures could offer me some advice?
I had bought the premixed stuff to lay the tiles on but now im worried.

most users here just put the tile down with out actually having it stay on for ever as it makes it easier for cleaning

ok...would that be an issue with water/waste etc getting through to the wood underneath?

i have no clue i my self is waiting for my custom viv to get to me and when it does i also want to do tile but personally i won't stick it down,it would be much easier to clean with out it being inside for ever

It could if the wood underneath is not treated. I couple of coats if polyurethane or even something like vinyl cabinet liner on the wood would prevent any water/waste issues.

my tiles are loose fitting on top of melamine, so I didn't have that type of issue.

The expanding and cracking is BS if ya ask me just to put it bluntly lol. I have mine glued down with power grip its a blue silicone type container. Also I used sanded grout in between the tiles and no cracks and I have had it for probably close to a year now.

That aside don't glue them down and don't grout it the others are right they will stay put and are easier to clean that way. I didn't plan on grouting them and everything I did it without thinking.
