Heya. I was just given a beardie about two weeks ago (actually, I was given two males, but gave the younger one to a friend who had some experience with reptiles). His name is Buddy and he is a pretty cool fella. So far, he seems very laid back. I was concerned about him because his appetite was next to nothing, but after adding a couple of UV lights to his cage (the previous owner didn't replace his after they burned out), he has perked up and is eating like crazy. Needless to say, I have had to do lots of research and fast to learn how to care for him. My first mistake was when I built his new cage as the one I was given was falling apart. I used the same material as his current cage which come to find out is stupid and was a waste of 100 bucks (basically, it was a cage with screen all around it so there was no way to hold the heat in)! However, I have been inspired by the folks here and have almost finished his new Viv with false rock built out of a dresser.

Thanks for all the great tips!

Do you know how old Buddy is ? I'm so glad you realized the viv was wrong....Too bad you had to spend all that money :-(

Buddy is four. The previous owner bought him as a baby. The other guy was 2 and was also bought as a baby. Unfortunately, I sent the nice reptarium with him and kept the crap cage for Buddy :/ .

I do have some pics of the progress on my enclosure. I haven't posted the lastest ones now that I have finished it and letting the fumes bake out before sticking Buddy in it.

I will take a pic of Buddy right now and get it posted!

Wulfe-

Very nice job, that enclosure looks really good. You did pretty well on that styrowall too! Do you have it set up yet? Post some pics when it's finished. I'm sure it will be pretty cool.

Later,
Chris

I put the basking light and uv's in it tonight while Buddy is sleeping. Testing temps and lighting at night, and baking off the odorous gas from the sealant.

So far, the basking temp is hovering between 105 and 110 and the cool side is around 85. This is using an analog gauge, so swinging by tomorrow and picking up a digital on the way home from the office to get more accurate measures.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
