Thinking about making a homemade cage....

Ok. My bearded dragon is little over 13 inches long now. My best friend's beardie is still a wee one but she'll be needing my 20gallon tank soon.
I've decided on some deminsions...I'm thinking 40in long/23in wide/25in high. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it'll be ok. Even once she's fully grown. So if you have any advice on that I'd appreciate it!

Plus, I looked all over the breeding forum and searched but didnt get a clear answer on my question.

So even if I have no intention of breeding her, she'll still lay eggs? and if that is so, I keep hearing about a hide box. The one's I've seen at petstores are....well....leopard gecko sized. And the one I had for my leos was crackig at the base and was crap. So should I also make my own laybox?
Can I use clay?

but yes, this is mostly questions of building things. please help!

Females CAN produce infertile eggs, even if they have never seen another male dragon. But, not all females do. And, there is no way of knowing if yours will or not. You don't need to do anything special unless you notice their are eggs in her tummy.

sure thing! I'll have to talk my dad into helping me! He's got the know how thats for sure! It'll be a father daughter project! eventually. gotta research the prices and make sure I have the money.
If I don't I'll end up using a giant plastic tub for a while. I'm a little unsure about that though....but I'll update you guys with that and my project I'm doing on the (tell me how this sounds) Dietary Preferences in Bearded Dragons. Sound sciency? Hope so! haha

Alrighty heres my new problem. I've been using sand for Newt for a while...like a WHILE. She's never had any problems and I love having that for her so she can dig, goodness knows she enjoys it. But her poos are....well they dirty the sand and its the type that absorbs and kinda clumps to the poo, so I end up just removing all the soiled sand. Backfire, that means theres less and less sand in there. I'm considering just moving her to playsand, since we already have plenty of it.
But like I said up here I wanted to make a cage for her, but what kind of substrate would be best there? It'd be difficult to clean sand out and replace.
Also, I want to put more rocks in there to help file down her nails, what kind are best? until I get that new viv made she's in a GLASS 20 gallon and that'll only hold so much weight....

Here are some pics on the cage, cabinet and rock formation that I am building. The cage is 48x23x23. This has been a work in progress for about a month now. I have purchased everything at Lowes. When I say everything, I mean everything, wood, screws, glue, styrofoam, light fixtures, electrical wires, etc. If you have any questions about the building process, let me know and I will try to explain how I built mine. It is pretty straight forward. The rock formation is a different story. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fun, but very time consuming. I noticed your in Eastern NC. I am as well, Goldsboro.

Awesome! At first I almost thought the rock formations were built with leopard geckos in mind! But yes, I am VERY interested in making things like that for Newt! Especially when I saw a little cave thing someone made! It all looks so cool and a great way to make up for the artificial surroundings to try to have naturalish style. Plus I just love making things! especially using clay, but it doesnt matter to me! I have no problem going that extra mile for my darlings!

You actually live pretty close to me I live in Magnolia (aka mag-nasty on the account of the hog farms) its pretty cool to meet someone on here that lives near me!
