They see colors!

I don't know if it has been proven or anything but Herculette just proved to me tonight that they see colors at least orange.

today I found a butternut squash and hearing how other peoples beardies love em I figured I give them a try. I mixed it up with her regular weggies with a nice pile of orange at top. When I put it in her viv she started hissing and went so black that even her tail tip got black and she did her most impressive black beard (which is more grey than black) and tried to break through the glass in pure panic. I lifted her up and first she hissed and then she realised it was me and calmed down.

I hid the butternut squash in the bottom but she's still trying to break out.. Hopefully she will calm down when she realises its not something out to eat her or anything...

But I am fully proven that she see's colors I don't know if there's been any studies on it. Now she is turning around and looking at it, I think she is starting to realising its food for her. No she's still scared of it. I think I might have to remove the orange stuff..

Haha she is standing on her legs making herself HIGH in the back corner of her viv looking AT Me. I swear to god she's saying PICK ME OUT MOMM!!!!!!!

wow,apperntly they see more colors than us.. that makes me wonder if we look purple to them. But if they see that many colors, they oughta have rather sharp vision too. I am sure my savannah has, I have seen him use the reflection of me int he glass to look at me from behind his log on what I am doing and if I raise my head and look him in the eyes throught he glass he will sometimes hide again. Esp in the start..

But its so cool, I had no clue, never thought of it to be honest.. and herculette is slowly getting used to her odd color on the food.. *lol* I am not doing a big deal out of it I figured that once she sees that it aint moving that she will eventually get curious as she always gets.

I just re-verified this recently too. I was disconnecting some rubberized puzzle pieces (called Puzzibits), and sorting them into colors so I could put them away. (yeah, selective OCD)

Knecco came over and grabbed up an orange one to chew on. I didn't think they were good for a lizard to chew on, so I moved the pile of orange ones to the other side of my work area.

About a minute later he ran by all the piles of other colors to get to the orange ones again.

Taking the hint, I went and got a baby carrot and sliced it into see-through-thin half circles. My mistake was putting nearly all the baby carrot in a dish for him to taste. He ate all of it! His belly was tight like a volleyball he had so much in there. I made sure he was able to bask for several hours before dark, but he spent the rest of the evening sulking, showing black belly patterns. You could tell he had a stomach ache.

But he still likes the small slices of carrots I put in his salad. There's no doubt they can tell the color green too. But Knecco has been all greened out for a while, too much mustard greens I guess. I need to try strawberry sometime.

Yeah, I had Robert in the car with me yesterday, and he spotted a green pattern on a cup I had in the cup holder and he went over and licked it a few times. Later on he tried to eat my mom's green sweater.

Yup, my girl goes for red and orange. Today it was the goldish buttons on my shirt :roll: . The red power button on the remote control also has some tooth marks.

Haha, so it's the colour of the hair that makes a difference? (same here, Pepper always finds mine tasty )

But either way, I found it very funny I had no clue. I did some reading and apperntly they see an even higher sprectrum than us.
I really wish I could see the world like a beardie, they have colors we don't. Wonder if their world look like a big bright rainbow. My beardie will go nuts once I am done painting, the whole room is going to be APRICOT!! *Lol*

LOL! Does anyones beardie have a favorite color? Dudleys is red- He will eat anything thats red! Once I painted my finger nails red, and he kept trying to eat those too LOL. He doesnt do this whith any other color though, just red!

At this reptile ship I go to, sometimes they will let their tortoises roam the store. If you have your toe nails painted, they will all stalk you and try to eat your toes if you stand still. Its so funny!

Bane likes green, strangely she barely touches her greens.

Astarte seems to like the color orange. I have a thick piece of cardboard for a divider. It was the box our tv came in so it as a lot of colors to advertise it's quality, in this case there's a lot of orange. She is always walking up to it and examining it. I think if we ever get a proper divider or change tanks we'll have to find her a similar background because she really seems to enjoy looking at it.
