Thank you, Blundy! It was indeed meant to be (at least a little bit) amusing.
Deemac, I understand and appreciate your concern. And, as Blundy also pointed out, if I didn't take the wellbeing of my dragon very seriously, I would not be on this site.
I don't want to start fights, or cause anyone to be upset, but just for explanation:
Firstly, Angie has (even before we got her) only been on mealworms. She got the occasional crickets and has a bowl of dry food sprinkled with calcium dust available 24/7. She gets a fresh salad with rockets, butternut squash and a variety of fresh fruits (kiwi, apple, papaya and blueberries) daily, but doesn't really eat from it.
The slight impaction I mentioned before was more a question of her not pooping for a little more than a day. Except for that ONE time, she poops a minimum of once a day.
Since I heard about the concerns about feeding mealworms, I have, as a precautionary measure, started giving her a small amount of apple and blackcurrent babyfood (thinned with a little water) after every feeding.
In South Africa, our crickets come from a place called Pietermaritzburg, which is approximately 500km from where I am. I have found an online supplier that is a little bit closer and have ordered 300 crickets from them. They dispatch on a weekly basis, so my first order will only arrive at my doorstep on Friday.
As I stated above, she is as regular as clockwork and is a very healthy and happy dragon.
Again, I honestly appreciate your concern, but in some cases you have to make do with what you can get. It is a question of either not feeding her for a few days, or giving her worms until the crickets arrive.
If anyone ever told me before that I would be ecstatic about receiving a parcel with crickets in, I would seriously think they lost their minds...
Instead, it seems, I have now lost my mind - YEAH finally our crickets arrived, together with cricket dust, a digital thermometer/hygrometer, gut load and vitamins!
Today I am SO happy! Angie has two particular areas she considers her toilet area. Last night I decided to put down paper towels for her, worri
ed that she might not use it, but she did! This is going to make life so much easier !
The basics are finished and they have moved in! Now it's just the decor that's left. Since the move yesterday, our new boy is already looking a lot happier and even eating better.
