Good news and bad news. Good news is at his recent recheck, Pogi has gained 4 more grams! So he is averaging about 2 grams a week. Not sure what the growth chart should be, but I felt pretty good about hearing that he was still growing.

Bad News...still has the coccidia. On a positive note however, the counts are way down. It was off the charts last time and this time it is about 3. They want it to be 0. So we are back to (2) more rounds of dewormer Albon. This time a higher dose. Then another recheck in 2 weeks.

Other than my frustration with this, Pogi is actually doing well. he is active, alert, and affectionate. I will continue my daily sanitizing, etc...but now I can get even more aggressive since I just received my supplies from Beardeddragon.co. Anyone ever used these products or have tips on applying them?:

Professional Concentrated Disinfectant
Natural Dragon Wash Soap
F10SC Disinfectant
Eco Clean Concentrated Cleaner
Chlorhexidine Gluconate 2% Antiseptic

I did ask what if he still doesn't get rid of it in two weeks, and I was told he would probably be switched to a different med and giving some prescription strength vitamins. How much can a little beardie take of all this???

Hi there....I remember Pogi, but not the specifics of his case. How long had he been on the Albon ? Many people feel that a low level of coccidia is tolerable, and that excessive meds. can weaken the immune system + even contribute to development of yellow fungus. You might want to give his system a break, but you'll have to make that decision. It's good that he's eating well and seems happy.

Pogi has been on meds 4 wks so this new round will bring him up to six weeks. I had heard treatment can last as long as 6 wks so perhaps this will help knock out the last of it. I do give him Bene bac as well plus soak him daily. This weekend I will be steam cleaning his viv n using some disenfectant from beardedragon.co. I bought it for it says it is specifically effective in fighting tough strains of cocidia. Ill post an update in two weeks on how his fecal turns out or if I notice any adverse reactions.

Thank you for your support!

Have you been giving him a probiotic of any kind in addition to the sulfa treatment? Avipro or reptipro will replace some of the gut flora that are destroyed by the Albon and can bloom enough to outcompete foreign organisms.

Oops, sorry saw that you were using the Bene back after I posted that. I've found the Avipro works a bit better, but they're all based off the same idea really.

:) no worries! I'm good friends w Bene bac... Used it when my guinea pigs n rabbit were ill too. This one is from the vet and is the reptile variety. I think it is because he is getting it that he is able to maintain his appetite. I will keep the other variety in mind too! Thanks!

I love the professional cleaner for disinfecting. After Geico was dx'ed with coccidia, I cleaned his tank and furniture with it. It worked well. I even took some swabs from his tank and furniture to my vet to check if and see if there was anything left and nope, the cleaner took care of his tank like a charm. I also use the almond scented soap once in a while on my dragons, and I love it. Gets the poop and food off them when they drag tails through stuff. I do however avoid their heads and only wash from the neck down with the soap. It smells good and my dragons don't seem to mind it. hope this helps.

Thank you! That was very encouraging! Did you mix 1 oz with a gallon of water prior to use as instructed...or did you mix it some other way? Also, did you wipe it on, or use a spray bottle? It says you don't need to rinse off but allow to dry on their things for 10 minutes, then wipe off...is that how you did it?

Where did you keep your Beardie during treatment? I have another tank in the same room. I will put Pogi in that when he is asleep and treat the other. But I wasn't sure if I had to remove the other tank from the room completely while treating the infected one....

I also got the other one for daily spot cleaning that can be used in the presence of the beardie. Have you tried that product as well?

Might try the bath soap tomorrow...lavender is what I chose. I just remember how lavender is a natural relaxant scent. When I was pregnant my midwife used to have me smell it on a hankie whenever I felt stressed.

I am anxious to be done with this stuff...as I am sure anyone who has had to deal with it has felt.

I mixed one ounce to a gallon of water and sponge cleaned the tanks inside and out including all the top rims and screen top. I let it air dry and wiped it out really well with paper towels. I then filled a sink with about a gallon of water and one ounce of the cleaner and soaked their furniture, logs and all in the solution for about 15 mins and dried them off with paper towels then wrapped them in aluminum foil and put them in the oven at 250 for 30 mins to make sure they were good and disinfected..wood does well in the oven. I have totes for my beardies, I put them in the totes when I am deep cleaning their tanks <once a week> other times I spot clean. Now I have a pet playpen for my 2 and they will go in it..lots of room to roam and play. Oh I wrapped the furniture in aluminum foil to keep anything on the logs from getting on the oven floor, that's the only reason for that. If you are talking about the blue formula <novalscon <sp>> then yes I have that also for spot cleaning. I have not tried the f10 products I think they are or the other you mentioned. I use what my vet approved of for use and that's the professional cleaner since the swabs I did came back clean of any parasites or parasitic ova. I swab my tanks 2x a year and let the vet look under the microscope for any harmful bacteria or parasites. I try to keep my beardies in as clean an environment as possible.

When goes to sleep tonight I'm moving him to the tank and plan to steam his tank n then wipe it down with the professional disenfectant and let it sit 15 minutes or so then wipe down. Will do the same w his cage accessories and then bake them. I usually disinfect then put through dishwasher on the sterilizing cycles. Then put him back after I'm finished. I ll do it again in a week. And will use the Eco n F10 for spot cleaning. I will see if they will do another fecal in a week to see where his levels are then.

I love F10, it's my go to for the critter tanks since it doesn't need to be rinsed. I am not sure it is effective against Coccidia oocysts though. It's my understanding the ammonia and quaternary ammonium family (I think beardeddragon.co professional cleaner is a quat) are the only ones really very effective against them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
