The Harry Potter crew...RIP Tonks

Hi everyone,

My baby Tonks has the weirdest habit. She tends to fold her front feet inward when she lays down or sits. She walks normally on her feet (although sometimes she does trip over herself, going for a dubia  ).

Her history... Tonks is a Petsmart "Fancy" Beardie. I got her on Oct. 18th, I have no idea how old she really is, She is 6.5 inches long. She eats dubias twice a day as many as she will eat. Dusted 5x's with Cal with d3 and 2x's with Herpivite. I bathe her every few days and offer water from a dropper daily (with each feeding). She is in a 40 gallon (split in half as right now she's sharing it with her big sister Miney, we are getting ready to build all the babies their new crossfire enclosures) She is under a ReptiSun 10.0 tube UVB and her temps are 105-110 basking, 90-100 hot side and 70-80 cool side.

Here is a photo of her after I woke her up the other morning to show how she sits...

I'm concerened that she's not getting enough calcium so I ordered some liquid calcium from Tracie's website (just waiting for it to get here). I have 3 other babies and none of them do this with their feet. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bri

You're doing everything right, so I'd just gently put her paws in the right position, every time you see her do this. I have no idea why some dragons do this & some don't. I have a baby that kept doing it, too, I just put her paws in the right position and as she got bigger she stopped. So maybe that's all that you need to do!

Thanks for the help. I try to straighten them when I see her doing the folding. She will also sleep with all four legs stretched out behind her, which is really cute :D I'll have to get a photo of that and post it :)

That is called sexy legging, when all four feet are stretched out behind her. It is priceless to see :D Will love to see a pic. Hope she gets out of that habit, it always looks painful to me.

Ok she's still sitting funny (I fix them when I see them), but now she seems to have become a total clutz. She will trip over her own feet. I've watched her all but flip herself over in her food bowl chasing dubias. It's almost like her back legs aren't working properly. But when she's just walking she looks fine. My mom suggested that maybe the bowl was too slick for her to get traction or that she just got thru shedding and was poss having problems with that. Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.

That is strange & I have no explanation for her, except she hasn't grown into her feet yet. I would have suggested MBD, but then she wouldn't be walking correctly & she sure looks healthy. Strange, especially since the other babies are doing so well. All I can suggest at this point is a daily bath, she might be a hit dehydrated. Try that for a week & see if she gets better. As for tripping while running after bugs, some get very excited, so maybe that's it? Try the daily baths anyway, can't hurt.

Hello,

I hope she likes her calcium. Is there any plastic or glass in between her & the Reptisun 10? How far away is it from her?
I am sorry she is having balance issues but hopefully she will improve soon.
Keep us posted on her.

I'll keep giving her baths (she seems to enjoy them :) ).

Tracie,
All the babies love their calcium (she actually tries to eat the syringe when it give it too her  ).
The reptisun is mounted inside the viv with nothing covering/blocking it. It is about 8 inches away from her.

Last night she had a dubia climb on her basking rock and she went for it and slid down the back side to the floor (luckly it's not that tall, and her blanket was right there).
I have a few pics to show, but I'm supposed to be working right now, so I'll try to get them up at lunch.

Thanks for all the help.

Just keep your eye on her, hopefully she'll outgrow her clumsiness. I can just see her sliding off her basking rock  Darned dubia that they won't stay still for her!

Here are some pics from last night and this morning.

Last Night, after "slipping" in the food bowl and getting mad that I was photographing her...

Waking up this morning, I guess this was comfortable...

and after eating this morning she apparently got tired...

I was right there when she slid down the bowl. I was feeding her sister some crix and looked over and saw her laying like this  but she wasn't freaking out about it, just lying there.

She also has taken to holding her front legs like they are in the last pic. Kinda looks like a human that has their arm in a sling.

What a funny little girl, the pics were a blast. I've never seen a beardie in the position of that last pic, made me laugh, she looks quite comfy & she sure has a nice little belly happening. I guess she's just clumsy, no idea why, though. She even looks like she's smiling in the last photo  Well all you can do is keep your eye on her, don't want her to hurt herself. Maybe when she's older she could have a neurological test at the vet but that's all I can think of, she's got a bit of a neurological twich happening. She sure is cute & I just love her colours :D :D

They are honestly so funny. I have 5 adult males & 2 of them pose like that still!
I'm moving your post to beardie tales, so everyone can enjoy your baby's highjinks!

And here's a pic of Rubio, at 4 yrs old, doing the same sort of thing, he's just a bit BIGGER!

and I couldn't resist this one, he's got a great smile!

I love them :D

Rubio is quite a handsome man with an awesome smile 8)

Here's my big man Draco with his smile on...

and I realized looking at the pic he needs his nails done (getting a little long, that may account for the wonderful scratches I've got on my arms/hands  )

Well I better get back to "work" one of the bosses just left (and his sister, the other boss, is mad at him for doing so)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
