Oola is currently brumating. While I hate not being able to interact with her, I've been able to snap some hilarious pictures of her while she's been "out of it". So let's share some brumation pictures!

Oola's first few days of brumation (oh so graceful):

I quickly realized she needed a hide, so in a pinch I used a large cardboard box with a cutout entrance. This is the face I got today.

She is always such a curious beardie! She usually watches everything I do, so it figures that even in brumation she refuses to sleep all the time. I'm pretty sure she sleeps while I'm at work but when I come home she shuffles around in the box and pokes her eyes out.

my beardie Blue has begun her decent into brumation too ...
last year is was October, but this year she is going down earlier!
time to miss them for a few months ... im *hoping* since last year it was from (full on) November to Feburary, that this year it will be December or January ... but knowing Blue, i doubt it. who knows! justh ave to let nature take its course *le sigh*
good luck with your brumating bearide ... its always sad to say bye bye for a while. missing their pitter patter feetsies.

Oola the beardie is REALLY pretty!!!! and i love her name!!

OHHH i should have gotten pics of the three days she was flat up against the wall of her viv sleeping until i moved her.
i will try to get some brumation pics ... that hide picture you put just screams those undeniable "brumating eyes" ... the look of "let me sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, and worry you and then wake up when i want to ... could be a month, could be four, nite nite"
ha!
oh brumation, gotta love to hate to love to hate it.

Aw, I don't look forward to this. :( I have had my first beardie for 3 weeks and she is only 12 weeks, so I guess I have some time before this comes on...taking care of and entertaining her is all I do, I don't know what I'm going to do when this happens!! :(

She is beautiful by the way and that last pic is comical. lol You can see how much is fighting it so she doesn't miss anything...she looks like she had a rough night out with the girls. ;) Poor thing....

Oola's still brumating. Another picture:

I'm taking this time to get her new viv ready. I got a good deal on a 6-foot plywood viv on Craigslist, but it needs to be sealed. Oh, how I miss my beardie greeting me every day!! :(

My god, when mine goes through this I'm going to lose my mind. Feeding/entertaining/bathing, this site of course, etc, etc is all I do. :( I see now why so many people have more than 1. I might have to be one of those people.

THANK YOU so much for these pictures!! i was having trouble understanding what Gaia was doing, i had *read* about brumation, but had not seen a picture of it. Gaia does exactly this. she turns into a worm and tries to snuggle under things, and has been using a turtle shell in her tank to hide in and peek out of, she looks like a real dragon when she comes out! (it's plastic, yes, not a real turtle shell. if you need good hides or decoration, check out the 'medium to large' fish section of the pet store, seriously).

i have questions i will ask in the health threads, but maybe someone can answer quickly...

they can brumate from 1 to 8 months, but is more than one brumation (?) normal? Gaia has had two "cycles" of this. once after we got her, and another right now. it has been about two weeks into this one, and 5 months since we got her.

she has been drinking more but eating less, this is normal, yes?

is it acceptable to interrupt the brumating to bathe, and let her sit in the window to get sunlight, and take her out to visit? (it's barely september, lots of warm sun left in 2012)

thanks!

I think it's alright to get them out once a week for a bath, but this is a necessity for hydration. I don't think it's good to disturb them during brumation other than for what's necessary. So no... i probably wouldn't try to have lengthy visits and make her bask.

My boy Sarth did his first brumation around this time last year...actually late August. Currently he's still up and active, although some days he just sulks behind his log, so he might be getting ready for this year...anyway, here are a few pics!

This is when I first realized he might be starting to brumate - he never used to go to sleep like that, especially in the middle of the day. He had more or less stopped eating by then so I was already suspicious

I put him in his hide, and he hid himself under his blankie without any help from me :p

This is what it looked like when I lifted up the hide

And some major stink eye when I checked to see if he was still alive

Not looking forward to this year...but at least I have my girls to keep me company!

Great pictures! I love his cupcake blankie! :D
Haha thanks, it came with a little carrier I bought from a member here. It's really neat because it opens up on one end with velcro, works great for heat packs!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
