The end to incandescent bulbs?

I realize we are switching to the energy bulbs but when I went into Walmart today to buy more standard light bulbs had a hard time finding them. The guy that works there told me that once the warehouses are empty that is it. You may want to stock up now. They will still make reptile heat lights right?

Hi,

That is not true. They are not banning, stopping the production, or making them illegal in any form.

The law that was passed basically states this:

All incandescents must be made 30% more efficient.

By Jan 2012, former 100 watt incandescents will now be 72 watts, and have to put out as much light as the former 100 watts
By jan 2013, 75 watt bulbs will get this same treatment.
By jan 2014, 60 and 40 will get the same treatment.
The new incandescent bulbs employ a small halogen capsule with an incandescent element that looks and operates just like a conventional bulb, while producing the same quality of light and using less energy. These halogen incandescents already meet or exceed the standards set by the EISA. To say it another way, incandescent bulbs are not banned. In fact, you may even have been buying EISA-compliant incandescents since 2009 when they first hit store shelves.

I would look into buying lightbulbs from another store if a certain store doesn't carry what you want.

After the modifications are made will the new100 wt bulbs put out the same amount heat?

I would figure not, as electricity producing light is the goal, and heat being put off is wasted energy of said electricity and would therefore probably be remedied to meet the new efficiency standards.

Although, thats just my thought. I'm not sure exactly.

Thats what I am afraid of. I then have to put out money for the expensive reptile lights.

This is the issue I've been running into myself. Everything is being cut in wattage, so they don't work as well as they used to. "Regular House lights" aren't as useful an option anymore it seems.

Hello,

In some areas you may not be able to find them at all while in other places you will be able to.
I think the UK has completely banned them, but not 100% sure.
You can thank our wonderful government for this, as it is part of their Agenda 21 & Carbon tax garbage.

You can try halogen bulbs, they usually are pretty good & less expensive than the reptile basking lights.

Incandescent-screw-type-halogens (as they're known in the scientific communities, that is ) produce a boat load of heat while still conserving energy. I have a 45watt philips brand on a dimmer to keep my basking spot cool enough.

Of course, if you'd like, reptile specialty bulbs surely won't be coming of the shelves any time soon... But try a halogen... Saving energy is never a bad thing.

Talking about the "Swirly Bulbs"? That's usually what I call them "scientifically" haha

No offense, but if you are going to pay ten dollars for the flood bulb why not spend the same for a reptile basking light?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
