The Adventures of Walrus, Hyuna, Harley & Quinn!:December 21

I had scoured the internet for a bearded dragon that perked my interest. I stumbled upon some silkback beardies and thought they were interesting so I contacted a breeder in my area who had posted an ad in some classifieds I was browsing and waited to hear back.
After a while, I finally recieved a phone call from the breeder, who is from A & J dragons, saying that he had sold the silkback dragons that he had posted but that he had one more in a pet store in his area that he could pick up and show me. So, I got in my car and drove to meet him.

When he got there he seemed upset. He told me that the pet shop had not been taking care of his dragons properly and that he had some bad news.

Turns out that the pet store had housed him with another much larger bearded dragon and it had "nipped" the silky. Nipped is definitely an understatement. His little right arm lays to his side totally limp. It's got visible kinks and discoloration in some of his toes. He was very, very dry due to the fact that they had not soaked him or lotioned him the whole time he was there. I posted on the forums about his arm here : viewtopic.php?f=45&t=194141 If you guys have any suggestions on how to care for this, please stop by and give me some input.

The breeder was furious and took all his bearded dragons that he housed at that pet store. He told me that he did not feel right making me spend the amount we had previously agreed on if I liked the little guy, and that he'd give him to me next to nothing, just enough to pay for the gas he used driving there and back to his home. He also gave me his guarantee that if the little guy didn't make it that he'd give me another silky in his place because he felt so bad about the whole thing.

So, now I've got a poor little injured silky. He's already stolen my heart. I've yet to name the little guy. I'm gonna give it a little bit of time before I give him a name. Here's some pics!

Mine aren't great greens eaters, collard greens, bok choy. That's about all I can find locally. They love squash, too, but tend to not digest it very well. And I have to hand feed all the greens, too.

Harley can probably smell your new rescue and that's why all the activity, she is a sub-adult after all and he's doing well, right? Not much you can do, having them in the same room and even if he was in a different room, she would be able to sense him. It's a bit of a surprise, seeing as it's winter slowdown, normally it would be in the spring, but Gabriel is going nuts over Puff, so what can you do? She's got her first crush

Hey everyone. College started up and I've had some problems on the home front so I haven't had much time to myself or to even think really but I have been finally able to slow things down and I'm back on track and I've been working on something really special for my lizards.

It isn't anywhere near finished and I have some light mounting and decorating the insides to do but they've got so much space for activities now :D I'm super excited to start painting and designing the insides the way I want to but for now, this works. Temps are all great. I still have to wait until the top mountable UVB strips turn up but they'll get those soon. Quinn's got top bunk, Harley below her, then Hyna and Walrus gets the bottom bunk. They've been running around exploring and enjoying their new space already and Walrus took the liberty of immediately pooping in his.

How's everyone been? Thoughts on the new home?

Wow! Did you build that yourself?! I'd love a little instructable on how you did it&approx how much it cost next time you have time, I'd love to do something like that!

I wish I had but I bought it from a pet shop who had it as their display case. I had to install the lights though which was a pain. I'm really excited they have all this space to roam now!

I know I've seen the instructions for building one somewhere. I'll try to get that back to you if I find it. :D

Ahh lucky kids! I want some PVC cages from Cornel's World, they're so beautiful and he'll install all the lighting fixtures and stuff for you. To bad the 3 I want(one for a new dragon this year hopefully), not including ANYTHING but the cages, will be 1300 dollars, with everything I would probably break the 1600 mark. G'uh

Wow, that condo is beautiful and only $200, I'm so impressed. Isn't that just like a boy to already poop in his tank, Walrus you are something else.

Hope all is well on the home front & that getting back to school isn't too stressful.

It's great to hear that all your babies are doing so well!

I have a new beardie now, her name is Puff. The weekend before Titan passed away on Dec 19, my friend Jenn called me to ask if I could take Puff. She and Leo were rescued together back in 2010 & we got Leo & she kept Puff. She started working night shifts and just couldn't take care of Puff anymore, so I sanitized Titan's tank really well (over 3 days) and Leo got that tank & Puff moved into Leo's tank. So Leo is in the bedroom now & is enjoying the peace & quiet and Puff is in the living room, enjoying the boys and TV. She's also laid 7 eggs over the last 2 days, not sure if there's more, not what I was expecting, but have to deal with it. She's 6 yrs old & has never laid an egg before, but then she's never been in a room with 4 males, either. So more excitement over here!!! Gabriel is totally in love with her & so is Lonzo, the other 3 could care less, but I would imagine that will change in the spring.

So thanks for the update & I also envy you your beardie condo :D

Hi, Annalee,
Just stopping in to say hi and ask how the babies are doing. Can't wait for more pictures and to see how the stackable viv's are sowing along decor wise.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
