Testing Apple & Orange Flavoured Crystals

So I was bored the other day and decided to whip up a batch of water crystals using 100% apple juice and 100% orange juice (in separate containers of course). It seems that my dubia colony prefers apples over oranges so I put some apple flavoured crystals on a small plastic container cover and boy did they swarm it!!!! I'll test the orange flavoured crystals tomorrow and observe their reaction.

Thats really interesting. It might be a easy way to feed oranges to encourage breeding. I'd feed in small batches so they don't spoil and make sure to use juice with no added sugar or preservatives.

I quickly stopped home for lunch and the apple flavoured crystals were completely gone. I'll try some orange ones and let you guys know the results!!!!

I fed the orange flavored crystals and they too were gone the next morning. So far so good!!!

I don't have a guide for making a large batch, you could try 4 tablespoons to 1-1.5 galons of water and just eyeball it from there. I just make a bunch and if I need more crystals I add a little more or a little more water. I usually just put them in the fridge overnight. With this new test batch I made small amounts just using old sour cream containers.
