Hi all. Does anyone know what watt/type bulb to use for a 29 gallon tank to get the basking spot to 105 degrees? I've tried a 100 watt household bulb but it wouldn't go above 93 degrees. My ambient room temp is about 73 degrees. Im using a thermometer with a probe from petmountain. Thanks in advance

Are you using a reflector on the light? How far away is the light from the basking spot?

No reflector, the light is about 10 inches away from the spot. Im gonna go get a flood light tomorrow and see if that helps. I will post an update with my readings. Still gotta get the viv set up all the way. I will post a pic as well.

Actually, you shouldn't need a 100 watt bulb in a 29 gallon tank. What brand is the probe thermometer that you're using? Also, where exactly are you laying the probe and how long are you waiting before reading the temps?

How old is your beardie? Is he spending time on the basking spot almost continuously now?

Digital Thermometer for Terrariums: from petmountain. I have it right on the basking spot. I waited about 1-2 hours and thats about when it stopped going up and jumped back and forth about .5 degrees. Im gonna get it all set up again today after work. Hopefully with better success. I actually dont have my beardie yet. He will be arriving in the mail tomorrow morning from Cheryl of Rio Reptiles so I am just trying to get it all set up before then. He was hatched March 11th of this year. I'm so excited I will post pics of him in his viv tomorrow.

I'm actually concerned about you using a 100 watt in a 29 gallon. What is the distance of the basking log or rock to that 100 watt bulb? I only use a 75 watt in a 40 gallon, that's what worries me.

10 inches as stated in one of my above postings. It is just a standard household bulb not a flood bulb. I am going to be testing the temps again to day after work just got paid so I can get the rest of my supplies.

Yea I thought it would be fine but it could be my lamp that I have or the actual bulb itself. Its kinda old and beat up. How long does it usually take for your basking spot to hit the right temps?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
