Temperature is low

Hi! So I have a 4 month old beardie in a 40 gallon tank right now, but the temp is a little low. My digital thermometer says it's usually around 89-90 degrees F on the hot side of the tank. It's got a 150 watt bulb in there now. I know it should be around 100-105 degrees, right? Any ideas or tips to help make the temp where it should be? I was wondering if maybe two 100 watt bulbs would work but I don't know if that would work or even be good to use. Thank you for the help!

Hmmm, that's weird. Instead of two bulbs, Id probably bump up the wattage of the bulb and use a dimmer. By chance, would you tell me if you're using a probe or temp gun and how you are getting temps with whatever you used to find out the temps. By the way, when your beardy is an adult, you will really only need mid 90s as a basking spot temp.

You are fighting a loosing battle if the viv has an open top (mesh lid) , the heat created by the basking globe and any other heat sources in the viv (ie heatpad, CHE) will immediately be lost .... very simple physics = hot air rises .

So - a very quick and simple and effective solution is to buy a piece of MDF or plywood to replace the mesh lid with , this will
>> provide a solid structure to hang your basking globe, uvb tube and reflector hood off, and any CHE and fitting
>> will prevent heat loss
>> will encourage circulation of the warmed air inside the viv
>> will stop other pets from getting into the viv
>> will mean you can get away with a lower basking globe and a lower power CHE.
