Tantrums

So, one of my other topics got me thinking about tantrums.
I will copy/paste here and add to, what I wrote about Rin's tantrums.

I've noticed that he licks me if I've annoyed him and he wants to go further on the couch and my hand stops him from doing so. He will lick me a couple of times when I do that, as if to say back, "STOP IT, WOMAN!!!"

He also fights being brought back into the house if he hasn't had enough time outside. He backs up in my hand, or (usually) moves forward, so much so, that I have to move my other hand in front of that hand to keep him from falling off. The other day, he almost fell forward off of my hand as we were walking in....like if he could, he would hold on to the threshold, and make me unglue his paws from the frame, and pull him inside. He knows where that threshold is, and right before it, is when he starts to squirm and moves forward. But if he has had enough time outside, he goes back in very peacefully.

When I put him back into his viv, if HE thinks he has not had enough time out (usually that means at least 1/2 hour or more) he backs up as far as he can on my wrist as I try to put him back into the viv. Then I take him off of my hand like taking off a glove, and he holds on with his claws. lol

When starting to give him a bath (even though that is the most relaxed time of the day for him), he usually tries to get out of the tub, and goes to the edge, and claws his way up, or jumps up to try to reach the top of the tub..not a chance but he tries at least twice. Then he usually finds my hand in bringing him back in, and he jumps up my arm to help him out. But after a couple attempts he settles in and it becomes one of his favorite things to do. He falls asleep in the tub most times (he did again tonight) but the beginning of it is usually like a kid getting in the bath...I DONT WANT TO I DONT WANT TO!!!!

Funny, I never thought about the temper tantrums. But, he really DOES throw a lot of tantrums. Guess I just have not listened to them.

Does your dragon throw tantrums too? If so, when and how?

Ill be carrying my dragon to her cage and everythings fine. As soon as i open the door she will start fidgiting and either scoot back up on my arm or do a 180 and leap to my shoulder and dig in.

Most days shes calm about bath time...other times she uses my arm as a scratching post as she scrambles to climb out. Then shell try to jump out a few times(she gets real close) and splashes water everywhere.

Her favorite tantrum...everyday...is scratching at her door when its poop time or play time and she wants out. She gets on her back legs and lays flat on the door and scratches around with her front claws to get attention. She looks like those garfield dolls with suction cups you see on car windows. I kid you not she can and will keep that up for 7 straight hours if i ignore her. Its so hard to ignore though, especially when she gets stress lines and keeps giving me this sad look.

So far, Rin does not do the glass dancing. Not sure why he has not learned that tantrum yet. It seems as fundamental as a baby crying for attention.

Yeah, the stress lines bother me too. I looked up at him above the couch yesterday and his beard was partially black and he had stress lines on his chest. The best I could figure out from that was, he must have been getting cold and he was mad at his own body for being cold, because normally, when it's close to lights out or he wants back into his cage for any other reason, he jumps down, off the top of the couch on to a cushion, then down my leg, then scurries to the viv and jumps in. This time, though, he sat up there, kind of cold, looking out the window, and just pouting with his beard and chest marks. Guess that was more of a pout than a full on tantrum, because it was not anything I was imposing on him. lol
Sooooo fascinating how they communicate with us through their body language. And really, I hadn't even given it much thought before, except for the obvious bobbing, waving, or pissed off beard look.

Three weeks ago a tragedy occurred in my family. My nephew died on Mother's Day and the following 10 days were hectic and stressful. Therefore, I was not able to spend much time with any of my animals. The reptiles got their lights turned on and fed but that was about it. When I finally was able to spend a bit more time at home my beardie was black bearding and head bobbing for about 4 days straight. He finally quit doing that and for the last week has been his normal self. It's amazing how much bearded dragons seem to require that interaction when most reptiles don't.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
