"Tank" The newest addition to the Family!

After my son's first beardie passing away only 2 months after getting him, we debated and decided to go with one a little older, a little sturdier, and my loving son fell in love with him because he isn't perfect. He has a small tail nip, and a few toe nips, but he has a wonderful temperament and has adjusted very well in the almost 48 hours we have had him!!!

Congratulations, he sure is cute. Love the grin on your son's face, he sure looks proud.

Would be a good idea to get him closer to the UVB. Is it the Repti-Sun 10.0 bulb? If so, it should be 6 to 8" from him in the basking spot. Just want to make sure everything is perfect for him.

We realized the distance of the bulb and rigged it suspending from the top for now so he can get within about 6" from one log, and about 8" from the other, we get his new 75 gal tank on Friday )))) so it will be much better set up for him by this weekend (and look a little better too!!) Thank you for noticing that and letting me know in case we had not realized it, ya'll are really great on here!!!!

That's exciting getting a new tank for him on Friday too. I'm sure your son will help get it all set up. Let us know if you need any help with temps as those sure can be tricky. Good luck.

Thank you!!! They sure love him I am a little concerned about how to get the cool side of the tank to about 80 degrees when we get the big tank, only because we are going from a 55 gallon tall tank to a 75 gallon standard tank, so we are loosing a little height (which I like) and gaining another foot in length, right now we have a 50w on the basking and a 100w shining across the tank to heat the cool side. We used an outdoor floodlight lighting fixture and it is mounted on the side of the tank where the basking spot is....So Im not sure but I think we will have to use a larger watt to efficiently heat the cool side in the bigger tank, but we do have a 150w bulb that we don't use, so I may try that to see if that gets the temps where we need them.....But I will surely be posting pics of the new tank and setup to get some feedback so we can get it just right for him!!!

What a cute pic of Tank and your son!! Perfect!!

Good luck with your new enclosure. It may take a bit of time before you can get the temps right. I've found a dimmer works wonders!! Makes it so much easier to make the adjustments needed to get those temps perfect!

in the 55 gallon his basking spot is 110 and the cool side varies from about 78-82 degrees depending on the temp in my house, at night the whole tank cools to about 72-75

Those temps are just about right for a young dragon. Warm enough at night that a ceramic heat lamp shouldn't be needed.

Wow this guy can eat!!! He ate 25 crickets yesterday, but he isn't pooping....he hasn't pooped since we got him on Tuesday, I've read though that beardies at about 6 months don't always poop everyday??? He is shedding so we have also been bathing him daily, and still no poop....should I worry???
