Hi everyone! I just wanted to make a 'blog' about my bearded dragon Fred.

He came to us on January 16th 2013, around 2PM. When I saw him, even though there were other babies in his tank, :love10: I knew he was the one I was going to take home that day... Of course the pet store guys gave us bad advice, so I'm so glad to have found this place, or else I would of gone on, still doing things wrong. (Thank you to those that helped me!) On the drive home, I was so nervous his little tiny container would slip from my hands and down to the ground, I also thought his container was a bit too small, (his tail was curled a lot) but, after a safe ride home, I held him until his tank was set up, then finally I put him in there, we put crickets in, but he just stared at us, after a little while he ate some. (Again, I was worried.)

Anyway, time for some pictures!

This is Fred on his first day home- So tiny!:

I was very nervous and thought he stopped breathing when he was in this postion  :

Fred, on his favorite basking spot, his cactus!(I'm actually wondering what I'm going to do once he outgrows it, he's on there like 24/7!):

Oh and his tank has changed since these pictures were taken! Oh and the pictures are small because they were taken with a iPad.

I love my Fred so much! :love5:

1st of all, I'm very sorry about your crab. A pet is a pet and it's always hard to loose them. 2nd of all, Crickets are the devil! Oh I hates them little, jumping, wicked, demons! :angry5: LOL! I wouldn't worry too much tho. They don't do well without a care giver. Not like wild crickets at all  What about flightless fruit flies for the toad?
Hmm... That could work... I just don’t know where to find them. (It’s probably gonna be order. I know my local petsmart doesn’t have them.... Thanks for your sympathies.

:laughhard: :laughing6: That is so true.

You probably would have to order the Flightless Fruit flies. I thought frogs and toads could have meal worms too. I'm not 100% on that, but I think they can. I've crossed over into super worm territory. Myah (BD) was on them and did great! Now I order the small size for Mylo (Leo) you wouldn't think Mylo would care, but he does! lol! I think the supers are just a bit quicker, and that makes him more interested  I'd check into mealworms for the toad. They're dirt cheap too!

Well...today, I have very bad news...

J.J the toad passed away this afternoon.

I don't know what I did wrong, I saw him chasing his crickets yesterday like a good toad would, and I check on him today and he is frozen, and his body is hard without breath.

Did I do something wrong? I miss him so much... I don't know what to say right now. :(

I am so sorry for your loss.
Thanks Esther. :')

I still can't accept the fact that he is gone.
Every time I walk in I look in his bowl and look around in his substrate and then I see his little body laying on top of the log. :(

Picking him up, was the most terrifying thing I've ever done... His sides and all were hard like bone, I am used to his normally soft sides... I thought he was just sleeping...Then I checked his throat, and he wasn't breathing... I was playing on the computer earlier, and I noticed he was just laying under his log, and I want to go back in time to slap myself for this...I didnt check on him... I didn't think he'd be dead... Maybe if I had checked on him earlier, maybe there was something I could've done? :( I don't know.. I feel like I did something wrong, that killed him... Though I did realize something strange yesterday... We were feeding him and he looked like he had trouble with his left back leg... He couldn't jump very high and when he did it was almost like he stumbled in midair...Could there've been something wrong with his leg? I didn't realize it the day before...

-Reptiles and Amphibians are designed to hide ailments. Showing that something is wrong just leaves them open to predators. The first sign is often not eating. J.J was eating. It is highly unlikely that you could have predicted this. I know I wouldn't have. You didn't do anything wrong and you certainly did NOT kill little J.J. Checking on him likely wouldn't have helped either because what ever was wrong was too advanced. Even a vet would have been powerless and that's IF you could find one good enough with toads to figure out what was going on. Stop beating yourself up. It is not your fault.
-Rest in peace little J.J. heaven needs hopping angels too.

Grew wings!? I didn't deal with crickets long enough to see that. Hmmm...How odd. :? I don't imagine they could fly tho. I've sure never seen a cricket fly. I'm sure it's common, I just haven't seen it.
-Solider fly's do fly! I opened my container of phoenix worms and out 2 flew! I don't think they can hurt anything. I got em' with the fly swatter! LOL! It just caught me off guard

Apparently, crickets CAN grow wings! I..honestly, don’t want to know if that certain cricket can fly though... I think I might have nightmares.

Well...I guess I AM switching to phoenix worms... AS LONG AS FRED AND OLIVER EAT ENOUGH SO THAT THE WORMS HAVE NO TIME TO CHANGE!!!

Ahem.. I have some news to report!!

Oliver:
...HE DID THE CUTEST WAVE THE OTHER DAY! He would raise one hand...Then the other...Then the other... and so on....IT WAS SO CUTE!!!

Fred:
...She fully black-bearded me! LIKE I MEAN IT! BLACK BEARD!! Super black, the WHOLE TTHING!! She was mad because I took her out of her cave... (Was just checking on her... ) She puffed it out and it was completely black, and she kept licking her lips like she was going to eat me!

Me:
Got new glasses (I’m nearsighted)... Got 2 fancy rats(Ziggy and Oreo, both males.)... Otherwise... Not much has happened.. :) Hey... Maybe I’ll dump a few dragon pics on you? Eh...Nah. I’ll wait.

I really don’t know what to say...
Today, was dreadful 12 years ago. Millions of people died...
I wasn’t around that day...But I know the story. And it is heartbreaking.
I’m very sorry to those who lost families on that day.
I will be thinking about those families all day.

I’ve been really busy but.... I. WILL. POST. PICTURES. I’m gonna like...Put a sticky note on Fred and Oliver’s tanks so I DON’T forget.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
