Taking your beardie visiting?

Hey all!

After my daughter's speech in class about Beardies, her teacher asked her if she was interested in bringing one into class.

So, how do I go about doing this? I haven't taken my babies visiting before, the only travelling they've done was to come home (in their tank or a rubbermaid).

I'm thinking I'll take Crack (since he's the biggest and calmest) and probably just for an hour, or maybe even not that long. He's fine to hang out outside his tank with us here in the house, snuggled up on our shoulders or exploring the couch. But at the school he won't be able to be let down to explore (I'm not putting him on the floors there, too cold and probably full of germs he doesn't need to lick), so what do I do with him?
Should I just put him in the rubbermaid I use to keep them out of their tanks when I'm cleaning them and just put a towel in there for him to snuggle with and that should be enough?

I don't think I need to bring a heat lamp, he'll be either in my arms or my daughter's unless some of the kids want to hold him, and when we're in the van I'd have the heat on high to keep him warm. Oh, it's a 30min drive to my daughter's school each way, and it's lovely snowy here so I don't want him to get chilly. When I take him into the school, should I put him inside my coat instead of carrying him in the rubbermaid? He loves hanging out underneath our open front sweaters, so the coat should be similar right?

Anything I'm not thinking about?

Thanks!

I asked someone on here a similar question, Spurlee, she may be able to tell you better what she did but if I remember, it was in a laundry basket with like blankets and a heat pack. I think he'll be okay for a hour or so, but i'd wait for someone else to back me up.

When I took Wink to the vet, I put him in a Serilite-type tub with his blankie and a warmed up rice sock. When I was taking him into the vet, I put the lid on the container so cold air couldnt get in, and wrapped the whole thing up in a towel. He arrived there safely, even in the freezing MN temps! :)

If u don't want to do a rice sock, u can go to a sporting good store n purchase hand warmers. I wrap them in fleece n place them under a towel n put Boodah on top. The handwarmers were a lifesaver when we lost power during the snow storm last week! Also, just fyi, I'd be careful letting the kids hold him. Maybe just let them pet or touch him but school floors r hard w/no padding if he or the child gets spooked. Good luck!

Beardies need warmth as you know, but using either a rice sock/bag or hand warmers will keep your beardy warm. Carry your beardy however you wish, either a sterilite container or on your chest, just with some kind of heat.As for letting other children hold your dragon? Not such a good idea,it could get spooked and try to jump causing injury to your dragon or another child. Most of all have fun. I have taken one of mine to school(the other will get to go maybe this spring,I only got him just as cold weather set in in October.) She did extremely well and the kids loved her.

When we take SPAZZ we [ I ] start the car and warm it up , set temp to 90 .
Whe you take them out just put them in your coat , then in the car , put them on the dash.
SPAZZ loves to ride on the dash, she has over 5000 miles that way, she rode there for 3 days when we moved to DALLAS.
If you take them to show bring a baskin bulb, and if they are calm will just sit under the light and let people pet them,
SPAZZ gits cranky if she's cold. lol spoiled

I don't know that I would trust Crack on the dash, lol... he loves to run when he's loose!

Thanks for the ideas, I still have to set it up with the teacher & my daughter. This is going to be fun!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
