Taking in a special needs rescue soon

Hey everyone, I havent been on much lately... but I was asked to take in a one eyed beardie who is 7+ years old. I understand he's not doing too well, but Im hoping to get that corrected. I'll post pics of him once I get him.

They call him "One eyed Jack" apparently he was born with one eye open, and the other one permanently closed.

Im excited and nervous all at once! Will post again when I get him.

He's 7 + years old, very thin, very dehydrated, and quite weak, but he's as sweet as he can be. The lady who had him did her very best to take care of him, and actually rescued him 3 years ago from someone else. She realized he was going downhill and wanted the best for him, so I'll see what I can do.

Im already in love with him, he's definitely a fighter, so Im pretty sure he'll pull through this. He's had a long bath since he's been home, and has drank quite a bit from that bath. I followed that up with some syringe fed squash baby food and now he's basking. He's got his one good eye open and he responds by looking at me when I talk to him, so that's really good I think.

Ah, looks and sounds like he needs lots of love and attention, and I'll bet that bath and drink must have felt so good.

Jack made it through the first night. Ive started him on Reptaid and he's had one feeding so far today of squash baby food. He drank a bit more water for me today too. His poor legs and arms are just skin and bones, and Im pretty sure he's got a bad case of MBD. I can also see the bones in his shoulders. There's a repti sun 10.0 on order for him, but for now he's got Eragon's bulb.

He's still very weak today, but did try to struggle against me when I gave him the reptaid.... so that's good. If I can get him feeling a bit stronger and more hydrated, I think we'll be on the upside. Im going out shortly to get him some pedialyte.

Just wanted to update. He's such a special lil man.

His colors are staying light... so he's not in any pain that I can see. I will keep posting updates as I can.

Well, Jack is a determined little fella, I'll tell you that! He gets off his basking spot every time he has the strength to do it! LOL The temp there is only 95 degrees because he's used to much cooler than that. Im trying to warm him slowly. The first day I kept him at about 88 degrees and he still tried to escape the basking spot when he could.

He's very docile except when being given his reptaid and then he'll back up - but that also gets him licking so then he gets his baby food/calcium mixture. He's getting 3 baths a day at this point, and is still very very weak, but his color is remaining good. I dont think he's in any pain, but he's still very dehydrated and way too thin. When I pick him up to look at his belly, it just sags (his belly).

Update!

Jack spent about 20 minutes being quite active today! He walked around his viv, and when he got tired, he'd lie down and just look around and take in his surroundings! He was WAY too lethargic and weak to do this yesterday!

Jack still sleeps most of the day, but he is spending more and more time awake and looking around. I can leave the room and come back a short while later to find him sleeping in a different position or in a completely different place.

He ate ALOT this morning (still feeding him the squash baby food, turkey baby food, pedialyte and calcium slurry) and normally he'll eat between a quarter teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon, but this morning he ate almost 2 teaspoons worth!

Still giving him reptaid every morning as well.

He's off to the bath right now, and then he's gonna get his dinner.

Jack had a nice long bath, and then ate a little bit... not much appetite today but he hasn't poo'd today or yesterday. He poo'd the night I got him, but only a bit of diarrhea.

The tip of his tongue is nice and white now, so I know his hydration is MUCH better so we'll hope for poo tonight or tomorrow!

Here's a pic of him I just took. I put him back in his viv under the heat lamp (which is still about 95 degree's... and he moved.... and seems to say to me....

I WONT lie under the heatlamp... you cant make me, you cant make me, you CANT MAKE ME! LOL
