swollen foot

Hi,hope someone can help ,my bearded dragon has a swollen foot !!I've just noticed it tonight also she has lost 2 nails !!she is around 3 years old (not sure as we rescued her) and is eating fine . She has just been laid under her heat lamp with her arm bent back . Please can anyone help ,

If her nails went missing I'd guess it was trauma of some sort. Was she on anything like a hammock with holes or looped carpet that she could have gotten her nails stuck in and injured herself while trying to break loose? Are there any open wounds, or just swelling and missing nails?

She has got a log that she sits on,to be honest one of her nails was missing when we got her but I've noticed another has come off ,Il upload as soon as I finish work

That does look quite swollen. The fingers don't appear to have open wounds so perhaps the nail loss is older. You may want to visit a vet to have an x-ray done to see if any bones are broken. Otherwise it may be local inflammation. Keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't spread. I'd offer some serrapeptase to help relieve some of the swelling. Try to flatten as much as you can in her enclosure so she doesn't have to climb much or put much pressure on the area to give it a chance to heal. A vet may immobilize her arm depending on what the issue is. Hopefully it's localized and she will heal quickly.

Thank you for your reply ,yeh it is swollen, can I buy serrapeptase in liquid form ? I've looked and can only seem to find it in tablet form from health stores.sorry if I sound quite ignorant! ,Il try this first,she keeps putting her leg back like this ,should I move the leg flat ?for circulation ?

I wouldn't change the position of the leg because it may wind up causing more discomfort. I believe Tracie has some Serrapeptase available from her store http://www.bug-de-lite.com/Products Page.html

Ah OK, I didn't realize you were in the UK. Can you get your hands on some silkworms? Feeding silkworms should have the same benefit as the serrapeptase.

Oh yeh I could do that until it arrives ,if she gets any worse I will just take her to the vets , she has been weight bearing on it today and has moved round her viv , so hopefully she might be a little better

Hello,

Can you think of how she may have injured her hand? Is that the only area on her that is swollen?
I see that you ordered the liquid serrapeptase. I will get it sent out on thursday & the usual turn around time is 7-10 days, on average. It usually doesn't take too long.
Were you able to get her decor rearranged so that she doesn't have to climb too much & hurt it further?

Hi , I'm thinking she may of caught her nail on the log that she likes to sit on.But not over ally sure,she certainly hasn't done it rushing around and she quite a lazy girl . I've taken everything out of her viv so it's all just flat.

Hello Kirsty,

Poor girl, I am sure she isn't happy about not having her log in the tank!
It should hopefully heal up pretty quickly, as long as there isn't any major infection going on there.
You can get some antibiotic ointment to put on the nail that was ripped or broken to help ward off infections.
I hope she is feeling better!
