I'm so sorry for you loss.. But I do agree with beardie parents, I do not think the sand was the main cause.

Have some tact. This dragon`s tank was not filled with sand, it had a small amount of sand in one area of it`s tank. Why? Because some beardies like to dig and are picky about where they sleep(I have a sand box in one of my beardies tank because she is a big time digger, does that make me a bad owner?). It doesn`t make someone a bad owner to appease their animal like this. She obviously cares very much about her animals very much so seriously, lay off. Your behaviour is shameful and even if her beardie did die because of some fault of her own(which he didn`t) you have no right to make her feel bad, losing her animal is bad enough. Condolences or GTFO.

I`m really sorry this happened but it`s like I said to Kitsune, sometimes if an animal is distressed for some reason they will do strange things(much like dogs eating grass so they can throw up.) It probably has nothing to do with the sand at all. Maybe he was in pain and stuck his head in the sand or gobbled some up, animals just sometimes do things like that when upset or in pain.

Considering my animals don`t eat in their tanks, or eat dirt I will HAVE no problem. Don`t be so rude.

Yes it does if enough gets in them there immune systems i would say. Even you can see if a dragon is shedding and rubbing against everything can get in the nose holes. Am not saying i no everything but think sand is deadly even for a two foot long dragon. But use what you want repti carpet isnt safe cause nails get stuck in the carpet fibers but i use it. Tried of paper towels getting messed up in tank.

Just wanted to say I am sorry for your loss. I too admit to using sand, only for a few days but until I saw it stain my dragon within a day I was over it and took it out. After reading tons of info more in depth I just decided to use the carpet. I can see how the nails could get stuck but for now I'll take that risk. Don't feel guilty or bad. We all sometimes go ahead and do things even though it might not be the best and most of the time it doesn't do harm. I think something else might have been a culprit not just the sand. Even so, if it was, nothing was intentional and that's why they are called accidents. <3

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
