We have a female beardie we rescued 2 years ago. It was believed when we got her that she was 3-5 years old making her 5-7 now... she has been alone in her enclosure. This morning to our surprise she laid an egg. It is huge! I have another female who is 3 in a different enclosure and she has never laid eggs. How do I know if we need to be concerned about more eggs... egg binding...??? Feeling very unprepared for this!

Its ok, females lay one unfertile egg every once in a while. I have never heard of them laying mare than one so binding shouldnt be a problem. Unless the neighbors beardie snuck into your cage in the middle of the night without you knowing! :p

Female beardies can indeed lay unfertile eggs, sometimes as many as 25 and also 3 or 4 clutches back to back. Once in a while they can lay one but most of the time, it is more than that. Make sure to increase her calcium and protein intake in case she does have more eggs inside her.

It would be a good idea to make up a lay box and to also make sure she is kept well hydrated. Watch for signs of distress like pushing and no eggs coming out, darkened beard and/or tail, lethargic behavior, lack of eating, acting very uneasy and uncomfortable.

Please keep us updated on her.

The first two clutches both of my females laid were infertle, neither had ever been breed and the both laid around 25-30 eggs.
It's amazing how many infertile eggs they can lay, isn't it? All that work they do for nothing.

Guess im wrong then. My 2 females laid single eggs, one clutch (If you call one egg a clutch) about once a year for the last 3 years. This year ive been breeding them so they have been popping out eggs like crazy!

Here is spaz the dragon. He was born today!! :blob5:

Awwww, Spaz is so cute, congratulations!

Wow, that sounds unusual, only 1 egg for 3 yrs. My female laid 3 clutches 1 yr, 1st was 11, 2nd was 13 and 3rd clutch was 15, they weren't very big but I've heard that infertiles can also be quite large too.

We are up to egg 4 over 36 hours... We made a lay box for her but she has just torn it all up and laid eggs on her tile. She seems a little cranky and wild-eyed most of the day but tonight she looks like she is resting peacefully. I forgot to mention in the original post that we rescued her 2 years ago (almost to the day). She has MBD. She has responded positively to having good health care, proper lighting & heat. Now that she is laying eggs I am kinda curious why my other beardie who is 3 and been living the high life since day one has never done any of this.

How long does it take for their bodies to create these eggs? Does anyone know? I knew I felt more in her abdomen after egg #2 but I am not feeling anymore now.

Infertile eggs are usually kind of squishy so they may be hard to feel in her abdomen.

I have two egg-layers out of my 6. One lays about 18 in each clutch, all within about 2 days, and the other lays about 12 in each clutch all overnight.

Just make sure you give her lots of calcium especially since she is a rescue with MBD! Liquid calcium glubionate might be a good idea.

woke up to eggs 5,6,7 and 8 arrived while having morning crickets... after a morning swim and some veggies she is taking a snooze on her rock.
we are well versed in caring for MBD so no worries there. in fact her tremors have pretty much stopped and her mobility is fantastic with the exception of her running on her elbows. we don't think she will ever try to use her front claws again... maybe that's why she doesn't dig in her digging box. we have several special needs animals so twice daily feeding around our house have us feeling like we bought a zoo. appreciate all the interest and support here on the forum!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
