Hey all, its been awhile since i've posted...srry. Been through some surgery myself:(... I pposted a thread awhile back on Syth's bump, and was told by a herp expert to leave it alone. Well a few days ago I'd put my female in with him when I checked on them later I guess she'd clawed his head and sliced the bump several times. Called the vet immediatly and could not get him in until the next morning so I bandaged, used a syringe to clean it with betadine and watched him like a hawk.

Took him in the next morn for a drop off visit with the vet (who has 31yrs exotic experience) He phoned me later and asked me for permission to dig deeper and to excise the entire wound. He was concerned though because the dragons skull was porous under the growth. The growth was seemingly just sebum in a fluid filled sack with attached blood vessels. He was kept overnight because the vet was concerned about the amount of bleeding. Hes now on baytril and I have to put two drops daily of betadine on the wound...I feel so bad for him. any advice would be great, should I be concerned about his gut flora? Should I give him some yogurt?? He;s such a good dragon, taking all this , I just hope he does get better. The vet had never seen such a growth, no infection at all and the sebum seemed to be coming from the skull itself so he's not sure if this will help at all... I'm hoping though.

I put betadine solution directly in his wound once daily and he's on 8cc baytril once daily for 5 days then every second day for 5 days. Please pray for him...he's looking much better today, I've had to force feed him which I dislike but he's not interested in food now whatsoever but once its on his tounge he swallows readily. His eyes are slightly swollen, the right one more than the left but has gone down some over the last 24hrs. i've put polysporin around his eyes and edge of wound. ANYONE ever heard of anything like this?? My vet was mystified as well.

omg thats horrible. the most i could think of would be to gently put some neosporn either in the hole or around it to keep it from getting infected. we had a horse get bit and a it developed a cyst after the vet emptied it and cleaned it out they told us to put neosporn in it. did the vet ever say what he thought it was?

My vet thought is was a sebum filled tumor of some sort though unlike anything he'd ever seen before. He was very concerned though about about how porous his skull was underneath the removed cyst and that there was so many large blood vessels involved. I know he'll obviously be scarred for life but I just want him to have a life at this point. I'm so worried about him....

how is that not causing his head to cave in? It looks like the back of his eye is exposed. Looks like it's atleast in the sinus. But wow...I am amazed to see it still alive with a wound like that.

what im confused about is that right where the hole is is where their parietal organ is. dont they use that to figure out where the light is coming from?

The vet was concerned about his sinuses too but it looks like they are clear. At first he thought the sebum might have been coming from his sinuses but it looked to be coming directly from his porous skull. Now that the sac has been removed entirely the skull is pretty much exposed thats why we have to continue with betadine drops directly onto the hole...

I wonder if that's what got the growth then??? Can he be ok without it??? The vet didn't mention that to me at all!!

p.s. he's the same dragon that's in my avatar.....just a few months ago.

i would ask him about that. im sure he will be fine without it you might have to help him find the basking spot though. as long as hes eatting fine im sure he will be ok

Of course with all thats going on he's much more lethargic that usual but he goes to his normal sleep spot at night and when I've turned the light on in the morning he crawls onto his basking rock...I'm taking that as a good sign..I will ask the vet though. Thanks for your reassurance Tastiger.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
