Superworms?

Hello,I have heard that super worms are great for juvenile bearded dragons. I have also been told that their shell can to too tough for them to digest and can cause impaction. I currently use crickets for as the staple food for bowser, my beardie, but I was wondering if super worms had as much chitin as meal worms do. I was also wondering what everyones opinions are on superworms. Bowser is currently about 10 1/2" and I believe he might be a male but not one hundred percent sure. :)

superworms do not have as much chitin in them as mealworms, but they are still listed under the category of "occasional treats" on the really good nutritional charts for feeding bearded dragons...I think this is b/c they are fatty and really dont have any benefits like repti-worms or silkworms that are naturally high in calcium. so yea you can feed superworms, but I wouldnt use them as a staple in the diet.

Some breeders and very experienced keepers use superworms + bugs of some type as staple food items (fresnowhite who used to post here daily comes to mind). I have used supers as a staple + crickets and sometimes butterworms since my guy was 11" long. I fed him the small supers (about .75 inch) when he was young.

I have had no problems, but I don't give him "all you can eat" either. I just toss a few on top of his salad, sometimes more if I'm going away for 24 hours.

Superworms and Mealworms really aren't good to feed a dragon unless they are at least 16" long b/c their exoskeleton is very hard to digest and can cause impaction..

Thank you for the input guys and I think I'm going to Try phoenix worms.

U can also use the reptiworms.. they are the same thing as the phoenix just a diff name and diff breeder and they are somewhat cheaper.. www.reptiworms.com I've actually tried both and they work perfectly

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
