hi,
My dexter is 9 1/2 months old and 16.5in long. I have read on here that i had to wait till he was 16in before i started feeding him supers (haha last time i measured him was like a month ago and he was 14in haha they grow so fast) anywasy he has never had a super before but loves worms....he is on crickets right now and eats about 25-30 a day + salad. I hate crickets and latley they have been getting smarter and getting out in my house ...sooo annoying :banghead: ..SOOO i live in a small town and always have to order my crickets but the local pet store carries supers so can i start using them as his staple? and how many would he eat a day .. roughly...(what do other ppl eat a day) ?

thanks sooo much!

I have heard you can use supers as a staple but I use them more as like a treat giving him around 4 or 5 a day along with crickets and salad.

I use supers as a secondary staple roaches being my main staple. I find that to many supers leed to some really messy poops. The chitins/shell of the worm comes out looking like popcorn kernel hulls it doesn't seem right and looks like it might be uncomfortable to get out. However they all love their supers but I only allow the adults to have about 12 at a time and large juvies to sub-adults about 5 or 6 at a feeding. Also make sure you feed the salad first because I find that most beardies will choose supers over all food. I have a couple of females that if I let them that is all they would eat. Beardies like variety or they get burnt out on the same feeder all of the time. Mine won't touch crickets but I choose not to have anything to do with those nasty little carnivore bugs anyway so that's alright with me. I think that variety is helpful for making sure your beardie is getting a balanced diet.

These are the feeders that mine eat;

Roaches (blatta lateralis/turks/rusty reds)
Supers
Horned Worms
Silkworms
Butterworms
Phoenix Worms

An on ocassion a Waxworm or 2.

ya i feed him butters and wax worms on occasion and whenever i can make it into calgary i ushally pick up some horn worms too.... but they get expensive. and i hate crickets and never ever could i have roaches EWWW sorry but i just could never do it and i live in canada and they are hard to come by anyways so i was looking for another alternative. and i read people use supers as a stable once they are over 16in. so im slowly gonna ween him on them and still mix in butter and waxies sometimes and hornworms on occasion i think i was just checking to see....if it is okkkkk and how many they ushally eat....but i have a feeling ill still be mixing in crickets in his diet for a bit.... thanks for the responce

As long as you plan on giving a variety of feeders then it would be fine to use the supers as a staple.
An as with other feeders it is however many your beardie could eat in a 10 to 15 minute period which
will vary so it's really hard to give you a solid number.

Billie is like a vacuum cleaner for worms.... OMG she is so greedy! She loves silkworms, and will eat a tons... she just ask for more. One day I had to clean up the worm bin, I did it in front of him, and she just eat 1-2 hours earlier. She ask for more, and poop! She usually poop once a day, and she will poop more if she see more food, I guess to give a lil room.... :silent:

So today is Billie sweet sixteen (she just turn 16 inches), and I give her superworms for the first time... she loves it. I gave her 7 supers, she ate that in a flash and ask for more..... so I think 10-15 min is not applied to this greedy lil beardie...

On the average, how much supers I should give her?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
