Superworms as staple?

Can superworms be fed as a staple. I've been feeding my dragon, who is 18 inches, crickets his whole life with a few waxworms. I was wondering if I could put him on a superworm diet for at least week, to give him a different choice. Thanks for your time. Also, what size is of worms is recommended for a dragon his size.

Superworms can be a staple insect for an adult dragon that is done growing, but they really shouldn't be a staple to any dragon that is still growing. That doesn't mean they can't be fed to a growing dragon, just that you can't rely on them as the bulk of the protein at all. No more than 5-6 superworms should be fed per day, to any aged/sized dragon.

So obviously, a growing dragon is going to need more protein than 6 superworms can provide, which is why they can't be a staple, you will need to supplement in other insects alongside the superworms.

Anymore than that is adding way too much fat into the dragons diet. Which can later lead to Fatty Liver Disease.

Thanks for this post. i hope u dont mind if i add dome of my own questions too...

What size should the worms be? I have seen some that are HUGE like earthworm size. I avoid those and search out the 'meal worm' size but they don't stay tiny very long.. can you eventually feed the HUGE super worms to your beardie? If so what size should the beardie be? And does the no more than 6 apply to any size of supers?

I rotate my feeders so my beardie will not see the same each day. Sometimes I even mix them together. Sorta funny to see a worm n dubia snuggle up together when faced w pending termination... Fear makes strange bedfellows.

Thanks!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
