Ok I can't get dubia's cause they are illegal in Canada. I can't get reptiworms either. The cost of shipping is ridiculous let lone the 13% sales tax that we are charged here for the worms and shipping. Too costly!! :angry5: Can I use supers as a staple and use crickets, hornworms, silks, and butters for variety? Not that I mind the cost but the crickets are driving me crazy. Their smelly even though I am always cleaning their enclosure. I buy 50 at a time for $5 and at least 5 to 10 die on me before I get to feed them to Draco. :angry5: And I am gutloading them with cricket quencher and the high calcium feed. They also get the salad and veggie throw offs from Draco. Draco is good at eating his salads, veggies and little bits of fruit which cuts down on his live feeder consumption. He's just over a year old, born late Aug. 2010. I can though get 250 supers for $15 and it sounds as though they are easier to keep and not as smelly. But I read here that there's still a chance of impaction and that they are not as nutritious as crickets. :banghead: This is just so confusing to me. :? I mean if crickets are the best I can do, than it's crickets for Draco. Somebody please help me here. :banghead: :)

Autumn eats mainly supers. I gave him about 7-10 supers with a couple large dubia nymphs when he was eating. As long as they are adults, impaction shouldn't be a problem. Feed the supers fresh veggies for food/water. I house mine in oatmeal and when it starts to turn to dust, change it out.

Thanks, since I can't get dubia's would I increase it to say 15 to 20 supers a day?? Draco's just over a year old. So adults don't have impaction problems with supers. That's great!!! Oh it's oatmeal, I was told bran. Ok so I'll get oatmeal!!

I don't think he will eat that many. I would stop at 10 personally. You can use bran too, I just use oatmeal. Its totally up to you.

Yup! I use supers too as a staple and supplement some butterworms in the mix.. I house mine in bran, but have used oatmeal too. Then once a week I will throw in the left over greens from the day..

Ok I've been reading on the forum that beardies should be 15 inches and adult before you can feed them supers. I measured Draco a little while ago and with some tail missing he measures from snout to tail tip 11 inches appr. as he wasn't to co operative. So if I were to add the missing tail he would be 12 1/2 to maybe 13 inches. He is also just over 1 year old. Would it still be ok to feed him supers or should I wait till he grows a little more?? I'll just have to live with the crickets till then! :) What do you think?

Mealworms and supers are fine! My friend used them with NO problems! They have to be 16 inches though.. I'm going to use them when Freddie gets older.

I believe a varied diet is the best one, I feed micro supers to my juvie and he just loves them! My 11yr old Beardie isn't fast enough to catch crickets anymore so he is on a superworm staple diet with some other worms in the mix just to keep the variety! I just found out I can get hornworms from the local petsmart so I am super excited about that too!

Don't use mealworms.. EVER they are crap for food..

You can get either small or medium supers.. the 16" rule is if you are going to feed them the full grown supers...

I've heard mealworms are fine. Aren't supers and mealworms the same but bigger?

no they are different species super are easier to digest than mealworm and they are more nutritious than mealworms. mealworms have harder chitin and can cause impaction.

Hi, I'm from the London area, and am having the same issues with the crickets and worms. I've been lately trying to feed my 1 yr old more supers than crickets... but right now he's slowed his eating greatly (think he's starting a slight brumation). The guy at Petsmart suggested to buy a few wax or horn worms and just feed him when he's hungry (about every other or so day right now). I may do this, as I just can't keep the crickets alive until he's finally ready to eat a couple! I keep my supers in a mix of oatmeal and bran - with a baby carrot thown in for food every other day.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
