SUNSHINE!

Rin LOVES sitting outside. We have some flat rocks that go toward a square area (designed for a hot tub) and a fairly large patio.
I took him outside to feed him dubia on a warm rock this afternoon after work, and he just loved eating in the sunshine. Then we sat out there till the sun went behind some trees. It was so cute. He laid flat on the warm patio, with his back legs stretched out, next to my chair, and turned his head sideways to listen to me saying his name, or to the kids playing in the neighbors yard.
At one point, he got up and started running toward the side of the house. That has always been his escape route...not sure why. But I caught him at the pass and stood in front of him and he stopped dead in his tracks. He has been known to black beard me when I stop him from running to the side of the house. But this time, I just picked him up. He protested at first, thinking we were going inside, and he squirmed around a bit. Then we sat in the sunshine again. He sure does have his tantrums by squirming his body around in my hand when he thinks we are going inside and he is not ready to go yet. I've learned to hold him in one hand, and hold the base of his tail with the other hand, like a parent holds her child's hand while crossing the street. :lol:

Any other tales of dragons insisting on sunshine? Have you tried feeding your dragon outside, on a patio? Rin just loves it.

I've just started taking my 4 year old rescue outside and he became a whole new dragon! The previous owner said he hated being outside, but I've observed the opposite. He doesn't run around or explore much when we let him out in the house, but when he's outside he just zips around all over the place! He'll start out relaxing, and soak up the sun for about 5-10 minutes, then he takes off and just wants to run! I live in an old apartment complex and only have a strip of unused driveway and a flower bed for a yard, and I can't let him go too far or else he'll run into the street. He always gets mad at me when I cut him off and bring him back to the spot right outside my apartment. He always likes to make a pit stop at my neighbor's lavender bush while on a run. He can also only seem to handle being out once a day though, and beyond that overstimulates him I think. When I tried to take him out a second time yesterday he got scared and tried to climb my backsteps to get back in the house.

Yes. Rin will run around too. Don't worry that it's only a strip. Dragons are HUGE on habit. Rin has an entire backyard to run around in, and he usually starts on a flat rock, and soaks in the sun, then turns and starts to walk then faster then run to the house, but not to the back sliding door...to the side of the house, and I pick him up (and he squirms in my hand) and the process starts again. I do find, when he starts to squirm around, and feels like he is going to try to jump, if I hold him with one hand and the other hand holds firmly but not tight and not pulling, onto the base of his tail, he stops squirming so that I can really hold him without fear that he will jump off my hand.
There was one time that he was out a second time and he walked up to the sliding glass door. I finally took him inside.
He often stops by some rocks though, and it used to be okay till he swallowed a pebble out in the rocks (between our lawn and our patio. That was about a week ago, and Im still waiting for him to pass it....I think. He is back, pretty much to his normal self, and eating...so I can't tell if he passed it or not.

my beardie poncho absolutely loves to eat out in the sun! she's so spoiled haha. she heads straight for my mother's rock garden when she's ready to explore and likes to sit up on the rocks and bask for a bit before continuing her expedition.

also she LOVES going through the grass and just being in it. but I have to watch out for bugs more there
