Hello Sherie,

Oh geez, hon. I will almost guarantee you that it is the flouride. You said he didn't drink any? I hope not. Bathing though he did absorb some of it though.
Flouride is a poison & unfortunately most people have no idea that the goverment of the US as well as other countries has added flouride to our drinking water to dumb people down. Unfortunately, it can kill living beings. In large amounts that are ingested, it has killed entire herds of cattle, & horses as well. There was a horrible case in Colorado where that happened. I realize a bearded dragon is smaller, but, the damage can still be done. We have to fight back & force the government to stop poisoning us like this.
In humans, it slowly affects the brain cells, as well as the liver & kidneys. So, get a water filter to filter that out for yourself as well as your animals.
How is he doing today? Any improvements? I hope that he is feeling better. That sounded like a delicious slurry that you made him too. I hope he liked it!

I apologize for the interjection of politics....it just makes me furious this is happening & people are unaware of this fact.
I honestly think that is what happened, based on the symptoms, etc.

Flush his system out with distilled water, or filtered water. Don't use bottled water either, because a lot of the bottled water is not much better than tap water that is treated! When getting a water filter, don't get the cheapest one either, maybe a middle grade one which filters out everything.

Keep us posted on him!
Oh yes, avocado is very toxic to them, so definitely do not feed him any.

Crap, had no idea that was bad for them. I have just been using tap water when giving the beardies a bath. I will have to start using a filter. Does anyone know if the brita pitcher filters will take that out. That is what I use to strain our water and the water I wash the veggies in.

Sorry to jump on your thread. I hope that your dragon is doing better.

I use Crystal Geyser Bottled water, it has no added flouride which is a good thing, it does have naturally occuring flouride, but it is so very little it doesnt even matter. its like .082ppm of natural flouride. ppm= Parts per million. I soak mine in regular tap water with a couple drops off repti-safe he only usually stays in long enough to have a bowel movement and then he's crawling to get out to play outside. Good Luck!

Hello,

Any updates for us? I hope she is doing better today!

Yes, the Brita water pitcher will filter out flouride, chlorine, & other contaminants, etc. It is a pretty good filter, overall. Just be sure to change the filter, regularly. :D

Hi there,

Thanks guys for all your advice- its been a very tough time to say the least.

UPDATE:

It was indeed an allergic reaction!!!!!! Which is sad but im happy that it wasnt a stroke or something worse.

Owners beware of Flouride and your baby!

He is on liquid vitamins and oral paste for a stomach infection. His breathing is still abit laboured but more than likely due to stress.

Its hard to tell but we pressume he drank a bit in his bath- and of course bathing in the water didnt help. Im so angry at myself for just not thinking about the flouride in the water. :banghead:

Needless to say im using only filtered water, we have a brita filter in the kitchen and a spika filter in the bathroom.... thats were he will be from now on!

He isnt out of the woods yet as he is now contstapated and still has an impressive black beard all the way to his stomach but that is due to being miffed off that he cant do his business..... hopefully warm baths in filtered water with massages will help that along. The trouble is his medicine can cause constapation so were not really advancing forward at this stage......

He is eating though, still only his yummy slushie that I made him but I think since he ate two teaspoons full then he must be feeling alot better.

We are off to the vet Friday for a check up and to see how he is going.

I will update again as soon as anything changes.

Fingers crossed.

Hello,

I am glad to hear he is doing a little bit better now. He must have ingested some of the water, & as small as he is it doesn't take much to make him ill.
I hope his appetite gets better soon, also, poor guy.
Please let us know how he is doing.
The Brita should filter out the flouride with no problem. It sounds like he enjoyed his delicious slurry!

Hello,

Well.....it depends on where you live per say. Some areas have very heavy flouridation in the water while other places don't. I see you live in Florida where "some" of the water is better quality. However, I would use a water filter because of the government trying to put more & more chemicals in our water without our permission.

Hey there,

We are back off to the vet tommorrow for a check-up but im thrilled to say he produced a little nugget last night- not much but at least its starting to flush out of his system .

His still on baby food and looks a little worse for wear but im feeling more confident about his survival rate now.

I am going to ring the local University and see if they do water testing- I know many moons ago they used to so im hoping this can happen so I can see exactly how much ''poison'' is in our water.
Will keep you guys posted....

That's good that he's doing a little better and passed a little "nugget." How is his coloring, any better at all?

Good luck at the vets, be sure to keep us updated. Hope you can get the water tested to get some answers.

His colour is fluctuating between super dark and yellow- so I guess his going in waves of feeling worse then better.

Poor little guy- I really hate that he just cant tell me what his feeling so I can fix it.

Well, that's good that his colors aren't staying super dark. Did you say that the vet gave him an antibiotic? If so, did the vet mention giving him a probiotic to help restore the good gut flora?

I know, it's awful that they can't tell us what is wrong, they are just like babies.

Hello,

Well, it sounds like he is starting to feel a little bit better. Hopefully, it is trying to pass through his system a little bit. Maybe his colors will keep improving also once his system begins to detoxify a little more.
Let us know what the water test reveals, if you are able to get it tested.
Is he eating much yet?
Good that he went to the bathroom too. Try to get some extra oral fluids into him as well, which will help flush his system out more.

Hi guys,

I wish I had good news to share with you all...

He took a turn for the worse this morning at his vet check up- he had what the vet thinks was a heart attack/ turn in her hand. We were wrapping up the appointment and all looked well until he looked at me, then looked at my vet and started to have his symptoms all over again, it was like he was trying to show the vet what was wrong. His eyes rolled back in his head, he had trouble breathing, he produced a black beard instantly and his mouth went white...

She rushed him out the back and put him straight on oxygen and the dobbler to monitor his heart, I could hear it chucking a mental then his heart going really faint- ...... I've never cried so hysterically in all my life.

He is back at the vets for observation- as for what is wrong with him we really don't know, it could be anything from a heart problem, to liver failure, to poison ...we just don't know........ she did say that in all her years she has never seen anything quite like this.... which has me extremely worried.

I'm waiting for a call from the vets to tell me what is happening with him..... and if he will be coming home at all. :(

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
