'sun' bathing behavior?

Juju, since i've put him in a new, bigger cage, has been acting strangly. He eats less, and doesn't poop much. Under the light, he closes his eyes, but will open them if i say his name. I heard somewhere that that could mean the light is bothering his eyes, but I don't think the basking light or the UVB light are too close, and their the same lights from his old cage.

Perhaps the light is too close?

what kind of uvb is it? What brand? How close can he get to it?

Some of this behavior can be relocation stress of moving to a new tank. They sometimes show their stress marks, are lethargic and eat less for up to two weeks after moving.

i agree with the previous poster; it could be either of those things or both.

dragons dont handle big changes well. they stop eatting and act really sluggish or maybe even agressive.

the opening the mouth could be a heat thing but if he does it when he hears you it might be a defense thing, like hes bearing his teeth.

what kind of thermometer are you using?

whats the surface temp on the hot and cool sides?

about the closing of the eyes, what is the exact brand name of your bulbs. try to be specific when it comes to the type of light(UVA, UVB, heat) company name and number(5.0, 8.0, 10.0).

agreed. but also wanna add that opening mouth thing is called venting an they do that when they are hot like a dog panting. unless his beard doesnt puff or darkin thats what id assume hes doing. an if your useing the same light an such from his old tank an his temps are okay then id be willing to bet on relocation stress

i'm sorry i don't know it's just when I last bought the light i didn't think anything about the number or the brand name...
