So I wanted to put in a stuffed animal and a blanket for my Elvis. But I know I read somewhere on here before that you have to be careful with the blankets so that their nails/claws don't get stuck in them. So I was wondering what type of material would be good for me to get from the fabric store for my beardie that he won't get stuck in.

Also, has anyone had any problems with their beardie trying to eat their stuffed animal? I have yet to put one in his viv with him because I'm afraid he might try to eat it.... maybe that sounds stupid but I don't want him choking on the stuffing.

I originally used wash clothes or hand towels. Then I purchased these micro fiber clothes from Walmart.
Now they all have some really awesome blankies that are very sturdy don't stain and actually keep them warm and comfy. Dawn (Blondie098) is where we got the good blankies at and personalize too.

My beardies also have stuffed animals an I have never had a problem with them trying to bite at them or eat them. :)

the blankies are super cute and I'm all about spoiling my pets but I'm new to beardies and trying to learn here....why do you need blankies and when/how do you use them exactly? I guess maybe the answers are obvious, I'm just checking. I assume when my daughter has her out of her tank carrying her around, she might get chilly. We are waiting for our petstore to get the replacement UV bulb for us in the right size so we're trying to get her outside for a while a couple times a day to get natural sunlight. We're in Florida so it's still a good 85+ degrees outside in the afternoon but I wonder, at what point, it's too cold or too breezy for her to be outside. If we wrapped her in a blankie or hand towel (until we order a cool towel - maybe for a Christmas present), would she still be getting the UV she needs when we sit outside with her?

Other than when you're carrying her around, do you put the blankie in the tank? That would keep her warmer at night? And you're positive she couldn't get tangled or trapped in it if we weren't watching!? Is that a yucky mess with sand as the substrate? I plan to switch to tile but sand is what she's always had (she's a year and a half old and it's what her previous owners used) and I'm only going to change things in her tank gradually.

Oh, one more - when I do switch to tile, I assume I'd still need a section of the tank to be sand so she'd have a soft place (although she slept on her basking log last night, not the sand) but, with a blankie, could the whole bottom of the tank be tile? I'm sorry if this is off topic, but should there be sand under the tile?

Thanks!!

We don't necessarily need them but many beardies like being all cozy and comfy like a scaly puppy. Blankies in my house are always used thinner ones for after bath for drying and a quick snuggle before going back under the light to warm up...and thick cozy ones for snuggling and bedtime. Most or should I say many like to be wrapped in the little blankie like a burrito. Plus by wrapping them at night they won't get as cold on the tile floor if that is where they sleep. Which most of mine do so I either wrap them like a burrito or lay them on one small blankie and cover them with another. I do have one that likes his blankie thrown over his peice of basking wood at bedtime like a little tent then he will make his way under it. Then in the morning he likes to sit on it while he is warming up. Once he's warmed up he will move off of it and look at me like okay get it out of here now and serve me breakfast.

For the most part from what I see with my crew is they don't much like wind or breezy days. I don't take mine out if it is under 70*ish outside...but it's not humid here like it is in Florida so I'm thinking for you it might be different being the humidity makes it feel warmer. Mental note to self....ask Dawn about that. :?:

Not sure if I fully understand this next question but let me give it a shot.

They absorb the UVB thru their scales if not confused so she would only get minimal but she would get some. The blankies are not so much for outside time as normally we don't take them out when temps get low or if they are adults they are sleeping/brumating so no sense. The blankies are more of something comfy for them to sleep with.

Many of us do not use any particles substrates due to the posed threat of impaction and parasites. With saying that they can not dig down into anything on tile so if they have a blankie they will do much like a puppy and wiggle/dig around until they find a cozy spot.

Thanks, Barbara. We're probably more like bearded dragons here in Florida than most humans - to me today at 80 something with a slight breeze, I was worried she was too cold. You go out with yours till it gets to 70-something...frankly, that's too cold for ME, lol!

I tried a "blankie" (washcloth) last night for the first time. I just put it over her when I turned her light off. Maybe I need something bigger? She's about 17". We just got her and she's always been on sand, I don't want to change everything all at once on her - thinking I'll start with half tile for now...when I tile the whole thing I'll need something bigger for her to be able to cuddle up with on that tile, i guess.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
